Using clichés like that could easily be labelled 'petty and immature' - the phrase you yourself used a while ago.
Loyalty in football is the rarest of commodities in this day and age, sadly.
That may well be, but it does explain people's bitterness and resentment towards him, which you said at the start of the thread you didn't understand. Do you understand it now? Do you also accept that the case you gave of Ian Rush's transfer is not comparable?Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostHe intimated he would be signing it, constantly made out it was just a question of having a few more meetings and then it would be signed. The goalposts were moved by him all the ****ing time. He said he'd never play for another English club. He ****ing lied.

He said he wouldn't leave on a free. He didn't.
I'd be really interested to see a quote from a credible source where he said he wouldn't be leaving..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

The Kop (LFC v Barcodes) season 2005/6)
"What a waste of talent"
says it all reallyLawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"
Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"
Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

we got 8 mill for him thats a mill more than we paid for bells. he ****ed us aroun and we lost millions in the process...Originally posted by Neil Young View PostHe said he wouldn't leave on a free. He didn't.

we all remember the quotes where he constantly said that he would sign the new deal..."I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. Show me one where he unequivocally said he would sign a new deal that meant he wouldn't leave.Originally posted by Diego View Postwe got 8 mill for him thats a mill more than we paid for bells. he ****ed us aroun and we lost millions in the process...

It was obvious what he was doing. If you couldn't see it then that's no reason to hold it against him now. If the board couldn't see he was leaving his options open then you should blame them for not selling a year earlier.
I understand people felt let down but I think there's no point being too emotional about all this..

Is it about 8 million? That would be appropriate.Originally posted by Mumsafan View PostThere's a prize for anyone who can tell me how many times this topic has been discussed on LFC fan sites.
Clue: It is somewhere over 2 million..

I know that it's not much difference but he said that he was close to sign a new deal not that he would sign it.
We don't know what happened in the meetings between the Owen camp and our board when they discussed the contract. Maybe everything was sorted out, maybe it was still some details that they had not agreed, who knows?
Rafa decided to sell him so he could get the money he needed to sign Alonso and then a year later tried to sign Owen and wanted to sign him last summer but his foot and knee injuries ended that deal.
I don't think Rafa would sign a player that messed the club around in a way that some people say that he has done.
Until we know all the facts then our board and Owen is to blame for the way he left and no one is to blame when he signed for Newcastle IMO because no one knows 100% what happened that time and if he could have signed for us if he had turned down Newcastle.
It's up to Rafa and Owen if he signs for us again. I would be happy if he did that but the team comes first and if Rafa decides that another striker is better for the team then I would be even more happy because that would make LFC stronger than a LFC team with Owen would be.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Owen led us a merry dance and unfortunately GH and Parry fell for it, which ended up costing us millions.
But in the end it's he who has suffered, hardly playing any games over the last 3 years while having to watch us lift the FA Cup as well as the Champion's League trophy.
