    Glenn Hoddle

For all you older people, just how good a player was Hoddle?
Spurs legend no doubt, cultered player, classy, silky i hear, would have loved to have seen him playing in his heyday.
Describe him for me folks(as a player of course)
    Cheers.

Don't be a tool, just cos he's no way connected with LFC don't mean he can't be discussed.

He did not say them things.

Haven't seen much of him myself but compares to Carrick in style of play

your wrong about that RP, carrick is nothing like Hoddle. he was very silky and played all over the park and hoddle hit the 40 yard pass for fun. with his range of passing and vision he would of been immense in the great teams of the late 70s and 80s for us. for me, Liam brady was a much better player and a heart that hoddle could only dream about. hoddle always got a decent reception from the kop back then as did most players who had a bit of quality about them. still he was never as good as souness, who at that time was the best midfielder in england if not top 5 in the world

Furry muff, I bow to your greater wisdom on the matter mate

I only really know of Hoddle the player first-hand from the end of his career when he was player-manager at Chelsea, and by all accounts although still a good player he'd lost a lot of the verve that made him a great player. Don't know too much about Brady but anyone that tries to keep that ****ing Dunphy in check is alright in my book

Hoddle was absolutely ****ing class and was always my favourite non-LFC player as a kid. If anything his talents are not recognised widely enough. One of the best passers of the ball the game has ever seen.

That was an entirely jocular post by young dan, and it sailed entirely above your dim head. Still, that said you need to have a word with yerself.

I'm now veering towards the opinion this place would be better much better off without you, ala 6CM.

However, to say he was never as good as Souey is a ****ing understatement of gargantuan proportions. Tom and I had a battle on here over who was better, "Gerrard or Souness", the fact it was even a discussion alludes to Soueys greatness as a player... one of LFC's very best!

Souness was the better player, but Gerrard still has the opportunity to surpass him.

I don't see the point in comparing Souness and Hoddle - two very different midfield players.

Hoddle was all strut and languid passing of the highest order. Souey did everything, and was therefore the more complete footballer.

I think if Souness had a passing range like Hoddle's (not that it was poor at all) he'd have been the greatest central midfielder ever, probably.

the point of comparing him to souness was he could never lead a team the way souness could. one thing i would bet you that if there was such a thing as a stat back then as there is today, souness would of had a higher percentage for complete passes

                              Nah he doesnt mate.

Hoddle was far more productive in the final third than Carrick could dream of. Carrick just makes things tick over.

                              Hoddle used to MAKE things.
