    Out of sync commentary

Why do the television companies (Sky and BBC, at least) insist on running the pictures a second or so behind the sound? Is it so that the commentator is describing the action as it happens?

Whatever the reason, it's bloody irritating once you notice it. You hear the ball being hoofed upfield by, say, Arsenal centre-backs before you see it and at times the commentator is a seer who predicts the future which then "magically" comes to pass.

Has it always been like this or is it a recent thing?

    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Are you watching on digital? I often notice the sound going out of sync on freeview - not just football.

Yes though Sky. I've only noticed it on football. Then again I pretty much only watch football and cycling.

      And Ugly Betty.

Did you actually like Ugly Betty then? I started watching it but frankly got too annoyed with the characters after a few episodes and lost touch with it. I think the crapness of her boyfriend was what annoyed me most.

They split up last night. It was quite touching.

I watch it with my daughter. She likes it and I quite like it too. It's certainly a lot better than most stuff on telly. Also, I admit there are other things that make it worth watching.

Ugly Betty is ****, trust me I was forced to endure a whole night of watching it online by a bird I was consoling. BUT if you are going to watch anything that's a bit **** then it should have Salma Hayek in it

I find E4+1 is well out of sync in my freeview

Polo, it's supposed to be a whole hour out of sync with E4.
