Club Shirts Banned At Wembley Final

CLUB SHIRTS BANNED AT WEMBLEY FINAL
    EXCLUSIVE
    By Andy Lines 22/04/2007

MORE than 17,000 Manchester United and Chelsea fans are facing a ban on wearing team shirts or waving flags at this year's FA Cup final at the new Wembley Stadium.

The problem centres on the Club Wembley complex, which has 166 corporate boxes and 15,000 seats bought as 10-year season tickets.

Most of these seats are expected to be sold on for hundreds of pounds to Chelsea and United fans for the new £757million stadium's first FA Cup Final on May 19.

And police and officials fear that could create an explosive mix.

FA bosses are praying that the rival supporters in Club Wembley will behave themselves, and stadium chiefs have issued specific instructions to fans who will sit in the central section of the ground.

They have told them: "We advise you not to wear club shirts or colours to football matches.

"If you do wear club colours, we may, at our sole discretion, refuse you or your guests entry to the stadium or remove you or your guests.

"Please remember that fans are not segregated in Club Wembley.

"And note that flags are not permitted within Club Wembley."

I'd be surprised if they could enforce this - imagine a few thousand empty seats for this Wembley "showcase" would be very embarressing for the FA

absolutely ridiculous - this is a fottbal match not a suits convention. Still they'll all be Sotherners so you won't be able to distinguish one "fan" from another; assuming you can call them fans. I think Parvenu is a better word.

what are the FA doing. imagine if we had got to the final, against either of these, HUGE game, huge event, and you can't wear the shirt, have the scarf or a flag, then what can you do. surely singing will be banned as that could lead to fights??

some showpiece event, bring on Athens

                  Can't see the problem myself.

Club wembley has 15,000 seats out of a 90,000 capacity.

The fans who end up there will be corporate types, or people who have bought tickets off the corporate types.

If you end up in the prawn sandwich section, then you have to abide by their rules.

A lot of Premiership clubs do not allow club colours in the Executive boxes either.
                  Oh I don't know.

They always had the same rules in Cardiff. I was sat in the Arsenal end the year we beat them 2-1................imagine how many gooners heard me and my mate screaming whilst they all sat quietly in disbelief. We was not popular!!!

Yes we sat in that neutral bit in Cardiff against the Mancs in 2003. All the Mancs in the section had shirts on. But were very quiet.

Exactly...think a lot of people have got the wrong end of the stick there

Most corporate types would turn up in suits anyway, so I doubt it'll be that much of a problem
