Paul Moorcroft: The Death Of EFC

I've just been down near the Albert and Kings Dock areas for the first time in a few Months and it was heartbreaking to see the arena there and the progress that has been made. It just seems a shame that there will be only 10,000 seats in there as it is worthy of so much more, even without Everton Football Club's involvement.

Looking at that site, those surroundings and standing in front of it looking out into the River Mersey I can't help but feel that this Football Club will never achieve all that it might have. I have read that people have called a move to kirkby as a potential Death Knell of Everton Football Club. Well, I think we have already had it. No matter where we play in the future, and no matter what the ground will be like, that was it. That was the future. We are destined to be stuck in the past and in Liverpool Football Club's shadow. I am convinced of that. That is the one chance that we had of grabbing this City with both hands and making this Club what we all believe that it should be in our hearts.

And now, looking back at the King's Dock fiasco and reading the arguments about the move to Kirkby, I cant help but grit my teeth and curse the people who complain all the time. ''We can't move to kirkby, it's in the middle of nowhere'' has replaced ''we can't move into the City Centre, the traffic will be a nightmare''.

Everton Football Club will always be, as I have only today admitted to myself, in the shadow of Liverpool. No finger pointing. No accusations. We are all one. We, as a Football Club and it's supporters had our chance and we failed. We failed our Grandfathers because Optimum still didn't Satis and we failed our Grandsons who will grow up as passionate, proud and most of all envious supporters.

Carry on bickering anyway. It doesn't matter.
