I don't think the rules were meant to be bent as much as this!
RELEGATED BOSTON SET FOR POINTS LOSS
Football League officials have refused to confirm that crisis-torn Boston United have been deducted 10 points with immediate effect.
The Lincolnshire club dropped out of the Football League after a 3-1 defeat at Wrexham on Saturday.
Boston's directors, knowing relegation was all but certain in the closing stages of the match, swiftly entered the club into a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) before the game had ended.
That should dictate that Boston were immediately deducted 10 points as punishment.
However, the League said the points have yet to be deducted, despite the club's CVA having been confirmed, raising the prospect of them beginning next season on minus 10 points.
Football League spokesman John Nagle said: "Boston United have been relegated from the Football League on merit.
"In these circumstances discussions with regards to the club's insolvency situation will continue in conjunction with the other relevant football authorities."
The Pilgrims, whose players and staff have not been paid for three months, required victory in north Wales to send Wrexham or Macclesfield into the Conference.
The escape was on at half-time after Francis Green's 39th-minute strike put Steve Evans' men 1-0 up at the break.
But the Dragons, inspired by 12,374 fans - their biggest league crowd in more than 25 years - came roaring back with goals from Ryan Valentine (penalty), Chris Llewellyn and Michael Proctor.
It meant Boston went down alongside already-relegated Torquay after a five-year stay in the Football League and extends the membership of Wrexham - themselves docked 10 points for going into administration in December 2004 - into an 87th season.
