    Mad idea:

What if West Ham play Sheff Utd in a one-off game at Wembley for the right to remain in the premiership?

I think it's a perfect solution and will end the controversy once and for all.

PS This isn't my idea - I pinched it from Talk Sport this afternoon.
    Liverpool born and bred.

The problem is that the teams all agreed to be bound by the arbitration of the independant panel at the start of the season. The PL clearly needs to make better rules but under the present ones there is no mandatory punishment for the offence West Ham commited and no precedent so in the end I suspect any legal challenge will mearly financially disadvantage those involved.

However I think it is fair enough for any chairman to be forthright in condemning what was clearly a poorly thought through judgement.

Tevez was allowed to play because West Ham proved to the Premier League that they had ammended the original contract to a similar form to our agreement about Mascerano. So assuming that they have actually done this then all is good.
OK, that would explain why Tevez has been allowed to play since without it being a complete fix.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

The problem is that you can't sign anyone outside the transfer window. West Ham terminated Tevez contract and that means that they or no one else should be able to sign him before the window opens again.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

You can sign out of contract players at any time.

Not if the player was under contract when the last transfer window closed.

Nah you can at any time. Otherwise the rules would be preventing people from working for months at a time. It's a rare thing to happen at the highest level anyway because top players contracts almost always run out at the start of a transfer window, and with an agent touting them around they usually find a club within the window.

Apparently that's true, but in the case of Tevez it doesn't matter because his registration was not transferred to a different club. I think the reason they stipulate that is just to ensure clubss don't collaborate to take advantage of the exemption for out of contract players and effectively make a transfer of otherwise contracted players outside of the window.

                  Yep, agree with this.

I dont think he gives a ****e now Wigan survived, but if he came out and said "I'm not arsed anymore - we've stayed up woohoo" people would laugh at him.

At least this way he can claim he's sticking to his principles.

All of this is baseless speculation. What qualifies you to talk about what's going on in Dave Whelan's mind?

                    It's just ridiculous and empty.

Er, because it's an internet forum ?

Wild speculation, false accusations and random guesswork are the basis to every other post on the forums.

                      Live with it.

It's character assassination based on nothing but your own prejudices. I can live with it thanks but it's so childishly ill-informed.

It says far more about what you would do in Dave Whelan's circumstances than it does about him.

That's a load of sanctimonious bollocks...

You're speculating, just like the rest of us, your posts in this thread have equally been based on assumption and pure guesswork too. You dont really have a clue what is going through the mind of Tevez, Whelan or the FA, do you ?

Not a single one of us here knows enough about the fine facts of the situation to state with any authority our opinion on the matter.

Once again, this is an internet forum Neil and this place would be incredibly boring without, as you so ridiculously put it, "character assassination and prejuidice".

You're being melodramatic and it's before 9am, so I'll leave you to it.

I haven't speculated about why he's doing what he's doing. I just commend him for what he's doing.

                            There is a difference.

Sorry if that sounds sanctimonious - I'm just tired of reading tabloid-style crap. Maybe you're right and I should just accept it's the nature of the Internet.
