    Deschamps quits Juve post

Serie A - Didier Deschamps has resigned as coach of Juventus according to the Sky Italia TV network.

There was no official announcement from the club which could not be reached for comment.

Frenchman Deschamps took Juventus back to Serie A this season after they were demoted last year because of their role in Italy's match-fixing scandal.

Deschamps, who said this week that he wanted to manage the club in the top division, has been talking to Juventus officials.

The Turin club's hierarchy have publicly backed the former World Cup winner but media reports have consistently linked others managers to the post.

Former Juventus and Italy coach Marcello Lippi has been among those mentioned.

SKY said Deschamps would remain on the bench for Saturday's home game with Mantova where Juventus need just a point to wrap up the Serie B championship.

They achieved promotion last weekend after a 5-1 win at Arezzo despite still carrying a nine-point deduction because of the match-fixing verdict.

Deschamps, who won the Champions League with Juventus as a player in 1996, almost begged club officials to make him coach last July when Fabio Capello quit for Real Madrid following their enforced relegation.

Although several top name players including Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro also left, Deschamps did well to persuade the likes of Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and France striker

David Trezeguet that it was worth playing in the second division for one season.

Along with guiding Juve to promotion, Deschamps' other notable managerial achievement was to lead Monaco to the Champions League final in 2004.

Even before his resignation, Deschamps had been linked with the Lyon job, which became available after Gerard Houllier resigned yesterday.

The story I heard in Greece is that Deschamps was leaving Juve for Lyon with Lippi lined up to replace him.

I have to say I dont understand this situation - Deschamp is very respected by the juve fans, obviously respected by the top players who chose to stay, and now he has the chance to coach one of the world's top clubs in one of the world's top leagues. Why would you pack that in?

on the surface it seems an enticing proposition

but who knows what happens behind the scenes at an italian club, especially juve, the italian league is bent and probably always will be

in lyon he gets to build on a dynasty and probably gets more control and less pressure

Lippi....better connections and will because of that have a better chance to sign the best players and he has worked with them for a long time before.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

According to Gab Marcotti in the sunday Herlad yesterday there are several reasons why Dechamps has decided to pack it in

firslty wages. He wants more pay and a longer contract. Juve have not been forthcomming on either.

Secondly Dechamps has been told that he will have no say on any of the players who are bought by the club during this close season. That in itself is a pretty compelling reason to go.
