And isnt the Copa America played every 4 years, like the WC and the European Championships? Or have i got that wrong?

If it's once every 4 years, then i'd be amazed that they dont take part. It'd be 2 major competitions in the space of four years, same as Europeans have with the WC and Euro Championships...
dont know the dates for some previous ones have been 2004 2001 1999 1997, might be every three years

brazil done it in 2004, they rested all of their big guns and gave youth a chance to come through the ranks.

the people take it very seriously but players that move to Europe tend not to, but i read that tevez and crespo are asking to be involved, i think argentina will field a stronger team than brazil...

it's been all ****ed up, sometimes 2 years sometimes 3 sometimes longer there hasn't been any real tradition like in WC or Europe, it's very strange...

Adriano is hasn't been fully fit for a very long time.

Ronaldinho and Kaka both begged Dunga not to pick them as they wanted a rest

Copa America is sort of a Euro-style tournament, this year in Venezuela. They have two 'invited' slots; My USA side and Mexico are both playing. My understanding is that everyone is playing their B-side; even USA, who should use the opportunity to play an A squad and get some competitive matches against good teams under our belt (with our new Manager, Bob Bradley), is probably bringing a B team, even though we're playing in Argentina's group and in Venezuela (knowing the political **** that goes on between Bush and Chavez, lots of us are skeptical about the tournament). The B team thing is weird, though.

I wouldn't read too much into Lucas not playing; This isn't that big of a deal. My understanding is that the stadiums may not even be ready...
