      Wow.

I can't believe the **** flying in this forum so far this week. Manure sign a couple of prospects and all of a sudden they are league winners again. rafa decides to go on a holiday for the first time in ages after making it to the CL final for the 2nd time in 3 years and we have no money to spend at all as far as everyone else is concerned.

We've already signed a craplod of youths on the cheap as well that will turn into cash later on down the road in the worst case scenario, but no one wants to hear that.

Come on lads. I know our season crashed at the end, but chins up lads. We will sign players, and if he needed to be here, you know Rafa the Workaholic wouldn't have left for a holiday.

Now if we are still having this conversation on July 1st then that's a different story, but give the new regime a couple of weeks with a transfer window, will ya?

        They've been bought for a combined fee of £ 35 M.

United to splash £35m on Nani and Anderson

        Dominic Fifield
        Thursday May 31, 2007

        Guardian Unlimited
Manchester United last night delivered a stunning statement of their intent to retain the Premiership title next season by potentially taking their summer outlay beyond the £50m mark after moving swiftly to agree deals in principle to sign the Sporting Lisbon winger Nani and Porto's Anderson, two of the most coveted rising talents in Portugal.

A delegation from United, led by the chief executive, David Gill, and the assistant manager, Carlos Queiroz, spent yesterday in Lisbon in formal talks with officials from the Portuguese clubs, with agreements smoothed out with both before being outlined publicly late last night.

According to the selling clubs, the total fees to secure Nani, 20, and Anderson, an 18-year-old Brazilian winger, could rise to as much €50m (£35m) with appearances and honours over the course of their contracts which, allied with Owen Hargreaves' imminent arrival from Bayern Munich for £17m, represents the most lavish spending of the Glazer era at Old Trafford to date. United's initial outlay to buy the pair from Portugal is more likely to be around £15m.

The trio of signings will send shockwaves through the Premiership. While Chelsea could match such financial clout if they desired, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool and Arsenal can match such spending power. Indeed, not since Wayne Rooney's arrival in the autumn of 2004 for an initial £20m have United spent this much to refresh their playing squad.

The implications for the chasing pack may be grim, but Sir Alex Ferguson will be celebrating something of a coup in the market. Nani, a long-standing target for United, had made his intentions clear to seek a new challenge having rejected the opportunity to extend his current contract at Sporting. The Premiership champions faced a second struggle with Tottenham Hotspur to secure his signature but, where they lost out to the Londoners over the £10m Wales international Gareth Bale last week, they moved quickly yesterday to ensure they did not endure similar disappointment over Nani.

The winger has been bought as a long-term successor to Ryan Giggs, who retired from international football yesterday, and is happiest operating down the left, with the 20-year-old keen to emulate his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo's impact at Old Trafford. Sporting had hoped to persuade Ferguson to allow Nani to remain at the club on loan next season. The youngster is considered the most exciting homegrown forward to have emerged in Portugal since Ronaldo, with Sporting only reluctantly conceding they could not keep him. "Going to England is an attractive option for me because the Premiership is one of the best leagues in the world and it would be a good challenge," said Nani last week. "I believe I would progress there."

The move for Anderson, tracked by Real Madrid and Chelsea, came as more of a surprise, not least for the speed at which the deal was completed. The Brazilian will require a work permit but has long been considered an imposing talent for the future. The winger was crowned player of the tournament in the 2005 under-17 world championship and has been named by the national coach, Dunga, in a preliminary squad for this summer's Copa América. The pair's arrival should ease the burden placed on Paul Scholes and Giggs, both entering the twilight of their careers, over the next few years.

All being well with their medicals, the pair will join Hargreaves, currently back in Canada, to be unveiled next week, with United's spending unlikely to end there. Gabriel Heinze, the Argentina left-back, is expected to leave in the close season with Ferguson keen to find extra cover at full-back to support Patrice Evra.

        Stars in the making

        Nani

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for Sporting aged 18 and played in all six of the club's Champions League group games last season, scoring against Spartak Moscow. Made his Portugal debut in September last year.

        Anderson

Like his countryman Ronaldinho, Anderson came through the ranks at Gremio. Won the player of the tournament award at the Fifa under-17 world championship in 2005 and has been named in Brazil's squad for the forthcoming Copa America.

People really need to settle down a wee bit here.

Nani is hype, and Anderson, while very talented, is also just hype at the moment.

They are both small, and not very strong. They will both have to come to grips with the Prem first, before they become the next "cronaldo's" or "ronaldinhos".

Sure they could become cracking players, but they could also become the next Quaresma, Simao, Reyes etc etc. ie: Hyped up players who couldnt handle the move at such a young age.

lets just wait and see who we sign before getting our knickers in a knot aye.

So you agree with my post 3 above yours then.

              Smart lad.

They also probably would have been monitoring for these players for quite a long time. Nani was linked to United since last year and they have some sort of agreement with Sporting Lisbon.

That's why they were quick. They have first refusal on all their players.

I know its a youtube clip, but he looks a wizard, him and nani and Ronaldo in full form will be hard to handle
I thought he looks ok, amazing bit skill right at the end, but he looks like he will dive about like Drogba. And it looks like he likes to shoot early rather than try and side step the keeper.

I'd rather pay top money even if its slightly more on a few players than spend milions on squad players. I am sick of us signing middle of the range players.

United won the league, they have already added 3 players and now turn their sights to Torres - we have to first catch them and then beat them... REMEMBER THAT.

And did you hear Rafa ranting about money? Did you ask him to go manage Chelsea?

Rafa has begged for more money, the club will give him that, let's see who he attracts to the club. This is the acid test, a league title challenge next season or serious questions will be asked.
Well said, we really do need to make up a good few years on UTD this summer if we are to compete. Even if it means spending a bit more to ensure success I'd rather we did that then take another season of mediorocity. Ok they spent loads on Carrick, probably double what he was really worth, but it has brought them the Championship. This year, they probably have overpaid for these 2 lads and Hargreves, but if it brings them title (and god forbid the CL) then it would be money well spent.

People say Rio Ferdinand cost them £30million. He will only cost that with success.
Rooney £28million, again only after tons of extras.
Carrick is £18mill with certain clauses.

This will be the same with these 2. It limits their losses if they flop, but means they still got a good deal if they become a success. Rick Parry take note!
Totally nailed on. Rooney went for a shade over 20m in the end...

Manchester United's signing of Anderson is set to be probed by the Premier League. It fears the Brazilian's move could mirror Carlos Tevez's deal at West Ham that involved third-party ownership. (Mirror)
