    From an Arsenal Fan....

As Man United, Liverpool and Spurs go transfer crazy, why no Arsenal signings?
    ArsenalnFriends.com

It seems everyone in the Premiership is strengthening for next season, but Arsene Wenger hasn't spent a penny as yet. Why?
I am beginning to wonder where and when Arsene Wenger will sign new players - or if there will be any signings at all? While Arsenal remain like a dead volcano, the rest of the Premiership has been really busy.

Manchester United have already started preparing for the new season by getting Owen Hargreaves, brilliant young Brazilian Anderson and Portugal winger Nani. They have strengthened heavily and look in good shape for the new season with no first-team players leaving. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Alan Smith back from injuries, they are looking pretty strong. In addition, Sir Alex Ferguson is still looking at unsettled strikers Dimitar Berbatov of Tottenham and Klaas Jan Huntelaar of Ajax.

Liverpool have also started the ball rolling with the capture of Florent Malouda from Lyon. With Samuel Eto'o expressing interwest in a move to Anfield, it will become very uncomfortable for us if Rafa Benitez gets his strike force going. Speaking of which, Rafael has just got his owners going by forcing them to commit to his expectation of a huge kitty for transfer purchase. As before, rumours of Michael Owen returning home are still flying wild. After what they achieved with Robbie Fowler, nobody is betting that it will not happen for Owen.

Chelsea as usual, with the bank of Abramovich backing their moves, will be a major force in the transfer market when Jose Mourinho decides who he wants. The Special One has just picked up Steve Sidwell from Reading and once he sets his sight on someone he wants, you can bet your last dollar that he will get his player.

Elsewhere, West Ham just got their man in Scott Parker; Spurs have signed star kid Gareth Bale and Younes Kaboul while the rest are getting players, players, players...

For Arsenal, we are worrying about losing the only player in the world who can keep us in the race. Thierry Henry has already expressed unhappiness at finishing fourth in the title race again. If the board does not do something soon, we will probably lose Captain Sensational - and that will be the decline that we must avoid.

For the sake of every Arsenal fan, I hope the board comes up with the cash for Mr. Wenger to do his job properly!

Where do Arsenal need to strengthen - and who should they sign? Leave a comment below or, better still, write an article for Sportingo.

Haha! So it's not only LFC fans...apart from his misplaced impatience, you have to say that he's making some HUGE assumptions there - very few of the players he has mentioned have actually been signed up yet by any team.

yeah, but it's GREAT to know that our transfer budget 9although not proven yet) is worrysome for others.

      spot on.

With no Dein, Wenger's long term future perhaps in doubt and quite a poor season last year, the future isn't looking great for Arsenal at the minute.

Its incredible to think they went unbeaten or 49 games not so long ago.

Have got to say, at least we're being linked with players, Arsenal appear to be very quiet with talk genrally of players/manager leaving.

on the subject of arsenal, i was looking at pictures of the emirates and highbury and the difference in the two is staggering. aside from the marbel halls, highbury was a very traditional football ground. the dressing room and tunnel area were very simple and traditional, by stark contrast the emirates is plastic, ****e and doesn't look like a traditional football ground.

i'm dreading the day we leave anfield.

Couldnt agree with you more. Souless place, no character, certainly in contrast to Highbury which had some spirit, although it was quite quaint.

The problem with it as well is that it is kind of bowl shaped, there are no distinct stands or defined stands as such which allow the atmosphere to generate. It's weird but with Anfield the atmosphere starts from the Kop and spreads round the stadium. Based on the one time I've been there, with the Arsenal bowl shape ground, the atmosphere does not seem to build in the same way as it does at Anfield, instead there are pockets of fans all over the place whose only song is "we love you Arsenal we do". I think at Highbury they had the North Bank which generated the atmosphere. The Emirates seems to lack that spark, that place of origin from where the atmosphere starts. This is why the Kop must be a central and distinct stand in our new ground. It's a bloody pity that it's taken two Americans to realise it's importance to our club and our new ground.

i only went to highbury once or twice when me dad took us to games but it always struck me as a traditional football ground, likewise with maine road. the stadiums that replaced these fine grounds are emotionless, plastic and completely false

Agreed. The new stadiums lack the character of the traditional grounds they've replaced. Unfortuantely everything we've seen of the New Anfield so far doesnt feel me with much hope of our new ground having any of the character, spirit or distinctiveness of our current one.

was speaking to an arsenal fan today and he reckons that even if a lot of history is created at the emirates, arsenal supporters as a group feel that they have lost their heritage, history and atmosphere

And many of us will feel exactly the same way when we leave Anfield, especially as relates to our heritage and history. As for the atmosphere, let's hope they get the stadium design right and it will be conducive to a loud atmosphere.

I have no fears that they will get it right.

to be honest lads i'm bricking it about when we have to leave anfield. the yanks and parry have no idea about this.

get a few of the decent fans on board so they can help restructure the stadium for atmosphere, etc

Should they have an idea that you're bricking it? Are you that tight with them?

Putting yourself on a bit of a pedestal there aren't you?
