    The ball was in play, in Sweden's possession, and in the box when he landed the punch. Although as long as the game is in play I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong here) it matters who has the ball and where, only where the offence is committed.

        Pretty pathetic that they called the game off with a couple mins left to play. It's not like the referee was harmed in any way. He ran on, got dealt with... fine. Just carry on.
