Birch gets CEO job at county.

Derby County have appointed Trevor Birch as their new chief executive.

The Rams parted company with Mike Horton last week and they have now moved to appoint the former Chelsea, Leeds and Everton chief.

"I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to join Derby at such an exciting time in its history," Birch told Derby's website.

"I very much look forward to playing my role in moving the club forward and helping the manager and board of directors fulfil their ambition in realising the club's true potential."

Rams Chairman Peter Gadsby aded: "Trevor earned a great reputation when he was last in the game and we are delighted that someone with his experience and understanding of football in general and the Premiership in particular has agreed to join us on the board of directors.

"We have big plans and ambition for the club and Trevor's appointment together with other senior personnel changes in operation, finance and commercial is another step along the way to making Derby a major force in the football world once again."

I vaguely remember people saying Trevor Birch was a boyhood red but i'm not sure whether that's true or not. I know some of the Parry haters have often mentioned him as a possible man to take over. Will be interesting to see the job he does at County.

Yes he's a very highly thought of bloke he was the one who brokered th e Abramovich deal at Chelsea. He was also the chief executive of Everton for 6 weeks and was the only one who realised they couldn't survive without us. So he pushed and pushed for a ground share when Kenwright wouldn't listen to him he ****ed off.

He would be my choice to replace Parry
Just to be clear I hate Rick Parry with a ****ing passion and no I don't want to talk about it.

Well played to them. Birch is a top bloke and superb CEO. If it hadn't been for him Leeds would have dissappeared without trace. He kept them afloat.

I always thought he could've done a decent job for us.
