    Standing at games

At Anfield this year the away end will have the nets over the first few rows for some games as away fans just come and stand. I know our fans do it when we go to away matches and right now the Utd fans are doing it at Charlton.

Now the thing is, if fans dont sit down at Anfield, LFC get fined and face the possibiltiy of playing games behind closed doors. Now the Kop stands on European nights but apart from that, is it fair that the home team get penalised for the away fans standing? I mean, if Utd, Spurs, Everton fans etc all come to Anfield and stand then we get fined. Surely the best thing to do would be fine the offending team?

Whats peoples veiws on standing or the way the fines are dished out? Should clubs do more to prevent it?

The away team shoud surely be held responsible for their travelling fans. If they're not then the rules need to be revised.

The best way to deal with this would be for football clubs to keep a log of who travels to what games, which I'm sure they do anyway, and revoke tickets for future matches for persistent offenders.

Fans would soon get the message if they were loosing the privelige of travelling to opposition stadiums to support their team.

I think that the away fans should be banned
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

They are kinda doing that now though with the fencing off of the first three rows like at CL games, but as UTD showed tonight, that makes no odds.

Its always the home teams fault tho as its thier stadium and they are responsible for the safety certificate.

If we, or any club, was ot ban away supporters though because they stand, then we are doing ourseleves out of revenue.

You could always strap away fans to their chairs. Perfectly acceptable for rollercoasters, so why not?

Perhaps some smaller clubs would lose revenue but I think cubs with a bigger fanbase could benefit. Anfield would easily sell out every week even if there were no away fans and could possibly make even more money due to there being no segregation in place.

I agree that some clubs could / would suffer.

I always stand at away games but they must be stricter this year - the Shefiield stewards kept making folk sit down on Saturday - I ignored them as did many others but folk behind us sat down and started complaining!
