    Saviola leaves barca...

Saviola leaves Barca with bitter taste

MADRID, June 18 (Reuters) - Argentine striker Javier Saviola has said he is leaving Barcelona after six years with a "bitter taste" in his mouth because of the club's treatment of him in his final season.

"They haven't treated me well, but that's their business," the 25-year-old international told a news conference on Monday.

"They'll have their reasons for acting that way, but I'm leaving with my conscience clear, knowing that I've always tried to do my best."

"I'm not singling anyone out, but I'm leaving with a bitter taste."

Saviola said although the club made him a belated offer to renew his contract it was "more of an invitation to leave the club than anything else and that's why I decided to leave."

The Argentine also said he was disappointed with coach Frank Rijkaard who left him out of the squad for the team's final home game against Espanyol nine days ago.

"It hurt me quite a lot," he said. "I had hoped to say goodbye to the fans after six years. It would have been a nice gesture."

Saviola joined Barca from River Plate for $28 million in 2001, but dropped down the pecking order when Rijkaard took charge of the team in 2003.

He was loaned to Monaco in 2004 and spent the 2005/6 season at Sevilla before returning to Barcelona for season that has just ended.

Although he turned in some impressive performances at the start of the year, he dropped out of the reckoning soon after and was given few chances in the first team.

Saviola said he had not yet signed for another club, but he was not closing doors to anyone including Barca's arch-rivals Real Madrid...
"I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."

"You would've been happier if you'd chosen to join your mother in her world. " - Ogami Itto

He'd be a fabulous signing... being free i'd expect every top club to be in for him.

I'd definitely take him, even on big wages. There's no transfer fee here, he's a bargain.

Without wishing to sound over the top, if we're not even IN for him (cant be helped if he chooses to go elsewhere), then serious fingers need to be pointed.

Without doubt DJS, a player of his ability on a freebie, we should be straight in for him

He's better than what we've got so we should be interested.
However, if he doesn't come, how will we ever know if we were in for him?

He'd be coming for the wonga, no doubt and Rafa only wants players who REALLY want to play for us.

Even though he's free, you'd expect at least £5 million a year in wages and that ain't cheap esp. if Rafa has doubts.

He won't get more than Gerrard ~ 6-7m/yr and he may well be asking for a figure in that region.

Sometimes it's made public knowledge that a club were in for a player, but he chose another option. I'd like to think that if we do go for him, we'd stand a pretty decent chance of getting him.

I reckon he'd take something in the region of £70k p/w, which is £3.5m p/annum. And i'd definitely pay him that much, or maybe even a bit more. Top player, plenty of pace, spark and goalscoring threat.

What sense does it make to say NO to him (AND his wage demands), if we're prepared to shell out £25m or more, PLUS £4m+ p/year on wages for any of the 'big name' strikers?

£3.5m pa wages is nothing seeing as we'd be saving £5m plus on transfer fees, we should defo be in for him
