the amount of goals scored are balanced depending on what league you play in, using the uefa coefficient. goals in the prem, la liga, serie a are all 'worth more' than goals in other european leagues. it's sort of the same system which works out how many CL and UEFA cup places leagues get. it just works out so that if a striker in spain scores 30 goals he is not beaten to the golden boot by some welsh striker who scored 40.

totti is a very good player......he is still a **** though.

plus i'd rather him win it than ruud van horseface.

      very much so,

as for Totti, a very talented player, but didnt he spit at an opponent at Euro 2004? Well done for scoring the goals this year, esp with his ankle pinned which would have limited movement.

Granted the TNS striker who scored 40 odd goals in the Welsh league the other year shouldn't beat the likes of TH, RVN et al to the golden boot. My question was more of a rhetorical one. The Dutch league may not be of the standard of Serie A but the League of Wales it ain't. This just smacks of the dickheads at UEFA massaging tha facts to satisfy the big boys of Europe. Stoichkov won it at CSKA. He went on to become one of the best players in the world and was probably signed by Barca for winning the golden boot award. He would probably have been denied the title under the current rules. For the record IMHO Totti joins the likes of Anderton, Redknapp, Giannini, Del Piero on the list of THE most overrated players of all time.

          1) was it?
          2) i was not comparing the eredivisie to the welsh league just giving an example of how it works.
          3) del piero overrated? he was a marvelous player in his day. and i dont see how totti is overrated, by whom exactly? there seems to be a consensus that a player who has scored 150 goals in 370 games in a top european league is ****e, when it is clear that he isnt. just because he's a knob doesnt make him a crap footballer.

plus i dont really give a **** about the golden boot, i was just answering your rhetorical question of 'can someone explain?' :whatever:

Yes it was. Anyone with half a brain can see that this is bollocks. A player from a league that has won six European cups and gave us Cruyff, Neeskens, Krol, RVN, Ruud Gullit, Marco et al is not considered worthy enough to have Europe's leading goalscorer. Oh and as for Del Piero, that's called having an opinion. Oh sorry I forgot that's not allowed on this site is it? Is that yet another rhetorical question?

Strange then that all of those players left that league in order to further their careers

your opinion can be challenged though, thats the point of a discussion.

brilliant player, unbelievable ability, to say he's overrated is nonsense, he's been doing it for years in serie a. he's scored some incredible goals in his time

he put out a book of 'totti jokes' (apparently the public perception of him is that he's dumb) and donated all the profit to charity

i'm not fully defending him, he's done some stupid ****, but he's got so much talent

Hear, Hear Mr Mexico. People who slate Totti as overated clearly haven't been watching him in Serie A over his career, probably basing their opinion on the fact he hasn't really performed at International level and the fact he is a bit of a ****.

Oh and Wavydavy, 3 more words for you: Campioni Dell Mondo.

i think people question totti because he has never performed at the major tournaments (bar euro 2000 when he wasn't really expected to) or in the champions league. he has however been a fantastic player in serie a without a doubt.

Henrik Larsson used to score a million goals for Celtic, but he usually didn't win the golden boot (although I think he won it once) because, well, the Scottish league is ****

                            FLMAO.

Larsson would have ripped apart any league.
