I couldn't beleive that Stuart Pearce tried to defend Thatcher by saying " If you're going at the speed Thatcher was going and you don't win the ball then sometimes mistakes like this can happen." WTF?!

You could clearly see the he tried and succeeded in hurting a fellow proffesional. That's his years of training at Wimbledon shining through.

To be honest Mendes should have Thatcher up on an assault charge. That was a deliberate elbow to the face. You could see Thatcher look for his head when he lunged at him.

That kind of attack warrants the FA kicking him out of football. Screw the "he got a yellow card" bollocks.

You could also tell that it was deliberate and that he'd lost it by the mouthful of abuse that he gave the other player who tried to get past him, having spotted that Mendes was in trouble and needed urgent medical treatment. I'm very disappointed by Pearce's reaction too.
