I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06
Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the book will be well and truly thrwon at him. Reason being Harry was rather calm about it after the game. I am sure he would have normally gone ballisitc unless he had already had a word with someone about it.Originally posted by kurtangle01Did anyone else see his challenge on Pedro Mendes?
It was nothing short of an assault. Absolutely disgraceful. He deserves a life time ban!
Duncan Ferguson was sent to jail for less.
Heres hoping that chav nazicnut is banned for life and or does 4 years for ABH:whatever:"Phew,.. for a minute then I thought we were going to loose that"

I dunno fella. You look at it again and see how fast Thatcher was moving and then to deliberately smash your elbow into someones face at that speed.....he could have killed him. Boxers have died with lesser hits than that. That's bone on bone at high speed. Vicious.Originally posted by BobNot quite in that league! A forearm smashed in the face. Would be amazed if he wasn't banned for 3+ games, but some of the calls on this thread are a wee bit OTT.

Not quite true. Ferguson had several previous convictions for assault including one where he battered a guy on crutches at a taxi rank.Originally posted by kurtangle01

Ferguson was on his 'last warning' so to speak and the headbutting incident with McStay at Ibrox was the final straw for the courts.

I think Pearce has also had a chance to see the incident on television; this was on the Man City website:
The Club does not condone such action and the matter has been dealt with internally by Stuart Pearce."The definition of insanity is not running into the same wall again and again; it's expecting a different result every time you do it."

Says it all really, the guy could have pulled out a gun and shot him point blank, and yet the FA would bleat on about FIFA regulations!Originally posted by enema of the statessn: manchester police to investigate, fa to review
Football is a physical sport though thatcher crossed a line last night.
Hope the FA do the sensible thing and issue a four match ban - not a police matter....
Don't take life too seriously or you'll never get out alive.

The challenge gets worst every time I see it, Thatcher’s a disgrace. IMO the end result in this will see Thatcher receive a 6 or 7 match ban.
With regards to the police investigation I can’t see much coming out of this. Does anybody think that it is a possibility that he will be charged with assault/GBH/ABH? Obviously it would be deserved if he was to be charged but because it happened on a football field, could it/will it happen?

Given a red sock by Pearce? Now that's harsh. And weird.
Seriously though, I'm assuming Thatcher will be up on criminal charges. From what one of the PFA types was saying on TV, it looks like a possibility.

Exactly what I was just going to write... I've seen this about 20 times now, and it just gets worse and worse. As SSN said today, he elbowed Nicky Summerbee before, collapsed a blokes lung on MC EU tour this summer....the blokes got a problem. I hope the book is thrown at him and moreOriginally posted by Joey JonesThe challenge gets worst every time I see it, Thatcher’s a disgrace. . As for Gallacher, if the only excuse he has is that he didn't see it - I hope he books an appointment to see an optician. F*(^*%&ing disgrace.

anyone got a link to this? Have only heard about it. Necer liked that Ben Thatcher **** anywayBill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
