The 5Live commentary seemed to imply that if you are off the pitch at the start of the shoot out then you don't have to take part. What happens if you break your leg during your run up remains a quandry.

"How do we take these players on the next step? Well I think we've done that tonight." Brian Marwood.
That's right - losing really is the best way forward. What a pr**k..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Look they did what England expects - they have got to the semi and then gone out in an "honourable way". How would winning have prepared them for the full England squad?Originally posted by Neil Young View Post"How do we take these players on the next step? Well I think we've done that tonight." You know that and I know that. Marwood is a tool though.

Off the pitch means substituted. An injured player that has been taken off can still count as an on the pitch player if the team already have made all three substitutions.Originally posted by dww View PostThe 5Live commentary seemed to imply that if you are off the pitch at the start of the shoot out then you don't have to take part. According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I was only reporting what they were saying but the debate on the radio said that if Taylor had been off the pitch at the start by agreement with the referee then he wouldn't have counted. In the same way that Onouha who was off injured after we had made all 3 subs was an thus didn't take a penalty.Originally posted by AFII View PostOff the pitch means substituted. Certainly. AFII's post is quite clear on this.
Presumably it's the same if the player dies..
