Chelsea finally seeded in the CL

    Chelsea in Champions League boost
    Jose Mourinho
Mourinho has got his wish for Chelsea to be in the top seeds
Chelsea have finally been named among the Champions League's top seeds, alongside Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.

The Blues had previously not amassed enough 'coefficient' points to be among the top eight sides in the competition.

Liverpool are the highest ranking English club followed by Arsenal, with United and Chelsea on equal points.

Each English side will avoid fellow top seeds AC Milan, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the group stages.

England is the only country to have all of its representatives seeded.

Italy's AC Milan, who lifted the trophy last season after beating Liverpool 2-1 in the final in Athens, are the highest ranked team for next season.

Barcelona, winners in 2006, are the second highest seeds and 2005 winners Liverpool are ranked third.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea will be delighted to be included among the top eight teams after having to negotiate very difficult groups in recent years - including being drawn with Barcelona twice in the last three years.

That was something the Blues boss found difficult to accept, complaining: "For three years we had the European Champions in our group.

"The first season we had Porto, the second Liverpool and the third Barcelona."

As the Stamford Bridge side had not qualified for the tournament until 2003, their ranking - which is based upon a team's results over five years, as well as the ranking of their national association - had kept them out of the elite group.

Mourinho moaned: "Being a second seed, you always have a very strong opponent. So when you say, 'What do we have to do to win it?', I think Chelsea need to be first seeds."

The draw for the Champions League qualifying rounds will take place on 29 June.

So what ? They deserve it based on the fact they reached two semi finals in 3 years, with a QF sandwiched.

If United don't reach the QFs next year they may well drop out of the top eight.

One less thing for Maureen to moan about next season, meaning he only has

Coupled with Juve's reappearence (complete with **** co-efficient), you could see a group of Barca, Scum, Juve, Schalke.

                I'd laugh.

Fiar play to the chavs, they have done very well in Europe for the past 3yrs or so.
But I do see that we are the highest rated out of the English teams and 3rd overall.

We can't meet them regardless of what pot they're in. 2006 was an exception because we had our country protection removed as part of the goat**** compromise UEFA made.

This is a link to the coefficients and how they are made up over 5 seasons:-

The points are based on results and not necessarily how far you get in the competition. We achieved mor points than AC Milan in last seasons competition...

Juventus will be the big losers next season as they are defending 29.2560 points without being in Europe.....

Oh and Chelsea may be above us next season as they have only 5 points to defend while we have 20....

I've been using that site for a couple of years - it was a real shame that Lyon lost quite early AND Chavski beat Valencia, because if memory serves it would have meant Scum and Chavski not being seeded.

Next year - Scum could drop out if they do badly and teams round them improve.

Wasn't the QFs where they lost to Barca the season before last, it was the second round.

But yes, now that their losses to St Gallen () are forgotten off the UEFA coefficient it's no surprise they're i nthe top seeds!
