    World Cup U20 diary

So I went to watch the first 2 games in Montreal today from my 11 row seat of the touchline, thought it was great.
Poland out muscled Brazil with 1-0 despite playing with 10 men for over 60 minutes. The goal came from a typical Brazilian free kick like.
Brazil had hit the wall from similar distance a couple of minutes earlier but the Polish lad smacked a beauty into the top corner from 25 yards that left the Brazilian GK rooted to on his line.
Brazil were ok, nothing major, too many hoofed balls to their big #9 Ju and Pato was quiet apart from one nice volley which the keeper saved brilliantly.
Poland were very physical & hard to break but deserved to win. Great atmo, great crowd and some SIZZILING HOT women on both sides.
The other game in the group saw USA & S KOREA play a entertaining 1-1 draw. Korea were in driving seat the whole match, hit the bar, hat 2 shots cleared of the line but could not win. The Americans played the counter attack well and scored one. Overall, Korea were really much better than USA.
In other games, Panama & N Korea drew 0-0 in Ottawa & Argentina were poor against the Czechs in another 0-0 stalemate.
Insua played well for 90 minutes for the Argies but they could not break the reolute Czech defence.
I have taken some pictures but have not downloaded them yet & might need some help to post them here.

                    day 2 review

Canada played awful and got beat well by Chile 3-0. Nothing to report there but a nice sunny day in Toronto. Nice defeat for the Canucks on Canada day.
Also watched Japan outplay Scotland 3-1. Some nifty players on the Japanese team, sadly I can't remeber their names. A comical first goal to Japan where the Scottish defender missed the ball which ran to the keeper who managed to kick against the Japanese striker who walked the ball into the net. How do the Jocks continue to provide jokers in goal decade after decade, we'll never know
Jordan & Zambia played a 1-1 draw in Vancouver. Nothing to report.
Nigeria defeated Costa Rica 1-0 in decent match in Victoria.
Game of the day was in Vancouver where Spain came back from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 vs Uruguay.
Barragan played the full 90 minutes and showed plenty to suggest that Deprotivo will have quite a player for now & the future. He was overlappin' to help the winger, he was defending, tackling. Very solid game, too bad it did not work for him at LFC.
Three other players CAUGHT me eyes from this match.
1-Capel from Spain(plays for Sevilla). A sweet left foot like no other. He played on the right to accommodate Barragan but when he was cutting inside he was so dangerous. The lad got a good engine, bags of skill and scored a peach of a goal in the 94 minute to rescue a point. He chipped the keeper from all of 30 yards after the Uruguyan stopper failed to punch clearly from a cross. This CAPEL lad is gonna be something for Sevilla.
2-Mata from Spain as well. He plays for Real Madrid and tonight everythin' went through him. Another naturally skilled player with trick after trick but his work rate was top notch and his range of passing was fantastic to watch for a young lad. His vision at times was Zidane like, finding red shirts making a run behind the defence or a diagonal run. Madrid got a superstar in the making based on what I saw tonight.
3-Cavani from Uruguauy who plays for Danubio one of the bigger clubs over there. The captain led by example with exemplery performance. A player similar to Mata but with a bit more grit. Scored the 2nd goal for the South Americans and led many of their attacks.

All in all it was a good day of footy. Tomorrow one of the favourites Mexico plays so does Portugal.

Redscouser, let me be the guest to report the Jordan vs Zambia match

Well firstly i think the result was fair for both sides considering the ref made some utter farical dubious decisions.

Zambia led in the 5th minute through a penalty which in my opinion wasnt and the Jordanian player got sent off, it was a controversial decision.

Jordan scored just before half time out of nowhere the Zambian defence made a comical erorr and were rightly punished for it and a Zambian player got sent off, for of the ball inicident which the ref didnt see it so off he goes to the lines man after a quick word he goes to the other side of the picth and consults with the lines man but no decision then apparently the 4th official from the touch line passed his verdict and for the Zambian player sent off.

Each player that got sent off, John Helm the match commentator said was very controversial and didnt deserve to be sent off. Anyway the ref was a yank so there had to be controversies.

Well i guess a draw was a fair result.

Rafa wanted Mata but he has signed for Valencia

I said for ages that he would be a great signing.

Thank you for the updates RS
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Interesting column on the BBC website by Tim Vickery, he talks about the Copa America and then talks about some of the South American players to watch out for in the U20 World Cup:

                            clicky
                            We come not to play.

Honestly , born 29.01.1990 . He is with Bordeaux now.

Anyway, I remember last year during U-19 Euro Championship after Janczyk ( number 11) scored a hat- trick against Belgium there was talk about him going to Premiership . We and Spurs were mentioned.

That guy burst into the scene in 2005/06 season. Almost got into World Cup squad but got injured and didn`t go to Germany. Last season he scored 7 goals in polish Premier. He is obviously incredibly talented but there are some issues with his mentality. If someone has a chance to watch next Poland games it might be well worth to have a look at him as he might be in England soon enough.
