      day 6

Gambia beat New Zealand 1-0 in a very entertaining match.
In the same group Mexico defeated Portugal 2-1 in another good match. That kid Dos Sanots is something else. Mexico will be very hard to beat in the knockout stages.
Canada lost again, this time 1-0 to Austria. A boring game where the Canucks only managed 1 shot on target. Austria with 6 points & 2 goals are through.
Chile produced a superb display to beat Congo 3-0. They had a fantastic little player by the name of Alexis Sanchez #7 who was suspended for the first match. The lad was excellent. Same pint size as Messi with similar skills. Scored one and set up another. Chile is another dark horse who I predict will do very well.

        day 7

First match on the menu for me last night was Czech v Panama..needless to say I spent the first 80 minutes chatting to me mates from our lovely 3rd row seat..them first 80 mins were zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Then the match exploded with 3 goals in 5 minutes. Czechs are ok team, qualified to the last 16 but will not last long.
Panama were a dirty team, glad they got knocked out.
Same group, the Argies beat Korea DPR with a sizzling free kick from Aguero. Argentina had chances so did Korea but at the end the argies won 1-0.
Second game for me at the stadium was Poland v Korea which ended in a 1-1 draw. Poland finished 2nd in the group, Korea 4th and out.
Good game with the Koreans forcing the issue from the get go but could not score. They were trying to walk the ball in instead of shooting when they had the chance. Poland played 451 and managed to score from their first & only attack in the first half. Their #11 nutmegging the last defender & the keeper. Lovely goal. In the 2nd half, Korea huffed & puffed but could not managed more than 1 goal.
In the same group USA stunned Brazil with a 2-1 win. Exciting game played in Ottawa. Brazil were hoofing it too much ala Houllier to their #9 Jo. Pato was good again but did not get the help he needed.
Edu ran amock by setting up Altidore for both goals. Then two are deadly.
Brazil will have to wait their fate after finishing 3rd in the group with 3 points.

Round of 16 draw pits some interesting match ups.

11/07/07: Austria v Gambia (Austria to shade it, tight defence will win it for them)
11/07/07: USA v Uruguay (Cracking game where the US will win it)
11/07/07: Spain v Brazil (game of the round, Brazil to show up finally & win)
11/07/07: Japan v Czech Republic (Japan will walk this one)

12/07/07: Chile v Portugal (Chile will beat the poncy pork&cheeses)
12/07/07: Zambia v Nigeria (Nigeria will squeeze through)
12/07/07: Argentina v Poland (Argentine too much class for Polska)
12/07/07: Mexico v Congo (Mexico will run riot & I will be there to witness it)

Alexis Sanchez is class. I know this because I've signed him on Football Manager many times.

Good read this, Art. Keep it going mate.

US upends Guatemala 2-1 in extra time (Michael Bradley with the winner) and some ugliness after the match. No word on why... Good match and proud of Bradley; He and Altidore are my ones to watch from this team. Come on USA!

Just got back from the Japan v Czech game. Travesty.

Japan ran over the Czechs for the first 90 minutes. Got a great header off of a corner for their efforts to make it 1-0. Extremely early into the 2nd, Japan made it 2-0 off of a deserved penalty.

Cue the ref helping the comeback.

Not long later, back to back penalties for the Czechs made it a tie game. Japan was still the better attacking team, and they were also up a man after a sending off.

Extra time proved nothing as the Czechs sat back in their own 1/4 of the pitch and clogged it up, although with 30 seconds left in extra time, Japan rang one off the uprights from a free kick 25 yards out. So close.

Japan's best player, #3 Michihiro (who i might add is someone we really need to watch out for in the future. Very much a Roberto Carlos type attacking defender with great defensive positioning as well) uncharacteristically had the first peno saved. A crossbar hit by the Czechs and another save by the Czech keeper made it a 4-3 peno's win for the Czechs.

Japan was the better team, and I can't see the Czechs advancing past the next round.

All in all a good game to watch as a spectator, but a bad result for football.

There was 3 more games in addition to the one Loco reported on.
Austria beat Gambia 2-1 in boring game. They will now play USA who beat Uruguay 2-1 after ET. That was a good game with many chances. Edu had another blinder, so did Szelezk.
Saving the best for last, Spain turned over Brazil 4-2 after ET in a very enthralling game. Brazil went 2-0 up with 2 peaches, the 1st was a scissor kick into the top corner & the second was Patos header. The lad did not even move he just stood there, directed his header into the bottom corner and whammmmmmmm..must have strong neck muscles this Pato lad.
Spain came back with a debatable hand ball goal before the end of the 1st then equalised with 10 minutes left.
Brazil had a player sent off so they were knackered in extra time. Spain took advantage and won. Spain will play Czech Rep in the QF.
Tonight I'm off to watch the exciting Mexican team v Congo.

Those two are the best of the roster. With his overtime winner was Bradley the match MVP?
                              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

                                Argentina beat Poland 3-1.

Poland took the lead thanks to their best player Janczyk. Good finish but he was clear offside with a few yards, bad mistake by the assistant ref.

Argentina completly took over the game after that and Di Maria scored the equaliser seven minutes later from five yards. It was Aguero show after that.

Argentina took the lead in the first minute of the second half after Aguero chipped a defender and scored in the far bottom corner. It was no way back for Poland after that and Aguero and Banega bossed the game.

Aguero made the game safe when he scored Argentinas third goal after rounding the goalkeeper and score in an empty net.

Aguero the star of the game but Banega wasn't far behind.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
