Blackburn Rovers FC have signed Netherlands Under-21 striker Maceo Rigters from NAC Breda for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the English Premier League club, despite interest in his services from Scottish champions Celtic FC.

Rigters came to prominence at last month's UEFA European U21 Championship in the Netherlands, finishing as the tournament's four-goal top scorer as his country retained the junior title. The Amsterdam-born Rigters registered five goals in 61 Eredivisie games for NAC after starting his league career with SC Heerenveen and FC Dordrecht. Blackburn have also recruited Faroe Islands U21 goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen from BK Frem København during the summer break.

I don't understand how he played in last month's U-21 tournament if he's 23? Do they allow a certain number of overage players?

Yoy only need to be under 21 when the qualification starts.
