Well done, all that soccer mum cultre is taking fruition then
However the South American teams are notoriously slow starters, so don't get too excited!
Actually, I don't think the soccer mom culture had too much to do with this one. I tend to associate the soccer mom culture with the idea of football being a kids' game, one that little Johnny can play without worrying about getting hurt, and without worrying about foolish things like competition--after all, in a draw, everybody wins...
I watched the game, and our boys played like they meant it. They hung in there with the Brazilians, weren't afraid to put a foot in at times, created enough chances to win and got a deserved result. Definitely not "soccer mom" stuff.
As far as South American teams being slow starters, Brazil's tournament could be over, having finished third in the group with three points and a -1 goal differential. They've got to hope the results in the other groups go their way, or they're done for.
Where are you from man? If you're going to make fun of my national team, I should be able to make fun of yours as well...
Yes, we had a disappointing World Cup...we got stuck in a very difficult group, and just didn't play very well. I'm also disappointed in our showing at the Copa America, although I'm extremely pissed-off that we basically sent a second-string team to the tournament.
Our biggest obstacle to improving at international level, in my opinion, is that (Mexico excepted) we don't play any competitive matches against first-rate opposition outside of the World Cup every 4 years. This was an opportunity for our players to gain some much-needed experience, and we go and treat it like a ****ing exhibition, sending our ****ing fringe players...
What the ****? We're not going to get any goddamn better playing the likes of Panama and Canada in the ****ing Gold Cup, nor are we going to improve against European B sides in meaningless friendlies...
Our boys are competitive at youth level...but we tend to fall behind after that. Some of it, I'm sure, is due to the difference between our league and some of the other top leagues. However, MLS is improving every year, and is founded much more on American players now than when we were starting off. We'll never be up to the level of the big European leagues, but I believe we can reach the level of the Dutch and Portuguese leagues. It might benefit us to get more players playing in Europe but, all things equal, I'd rather see American players actually playing in MLS than languishing some German side's reserves.
But a strong domestic league isn't everything...England's pathetic international performances are proof positive of that...
Overall, the US is improving, and we will continue to do so, especially if football can gain a firm niche in our sporting landscape.
believe it or not fella the yanks are closer than you think. they took a load of kids down to that copa tournament and had a look at them when it matters. ****in england are stuck in a time warp and havent progressed and will not make any progress with steve maclaren. you will see more and more yanks showing up around europe. we just signed 2 kids ourselves from california

USA is defo producing good young talent. I have seen their first 2 games live and they have some players.
Zuzzou & Szeltek will be some players if they are nurtured well. Edu & Altidore will get even better.
It's all down to grassroots, the US is investing heavily in footy down there that the margin of error is minimal.
With the help of foreign managers like S Nicol & others the game will keep getting better. They won't win the WC U20 this year but in 4 years time they might. Same for the seniors, might win the WC in about 10-15 years time.
Well with the resources available to the Yanks its only time before they become a force. With such investment and huge population who come from all corners of the earth, they could be a real force (if all only the vast majority of Yanks 'got' football).

if the usa u20 team plays a similar team that plays the same high tempo then it will be a toss up in the outcome but they are more than capable of beating your mexicos and argentinas of the world as they did brasil last night

If the english players played with the same heart and passion as the american players do for the national team then England would have a chance to win the world cup.
It will be a big help for US soccer that some of the best teams, like us for example, helps them setting up good football schools.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

We also need our best athletes choosing football over the "American" sports.
IMO that may never happen as I think it would require the MLS to gain financial parity with our other sports. I wonder what sort of footballer Barry Sanders or Michael Irvin could have become. . . .
