Djibril Cisse has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to sign for Bolton, labelling The Trotters a 'third division club'.
The France international made his loan move from Liverpool to Marseille permanent this week and is looking forward to the chance to showcase his talents in the Champions League.
Cisse has stated Marseille was always his favoured destination, but claimed The Reds wanted to sell him to Bolton or Atletico Madrid.
"Liverpool didn't want me to stay," Cisse said during a press conference. "They wanted to send me to Bolton and to Madrid but I said no. It was Marseille or nothing."
Cisse claims he turned down more lucrative financial offers in order to seal his move to Stade Velodrome.
"I received big financial offers and so did Liverpool," added Cisse. "I could have nearly doubled my wage. But playing for an English 'third division club' doesn't interest me.
"I prefer to earn less money and to play in the Champions League. I met the English directors twice with Marseille and once alone. They saw that I was really interested in l'OM and that I was really ready to go for it."
