    Serbia fined £17k

FA'S FURY AT RACIST ROW FINE
    By Simon Bird 14/07/2007

THE FA reacted with fury yesterday after Serbia were fined £17,000 for the racial abuse suffered by Stuart Pearce's U-21 stars - who were also hit with a £2,150 penalty.

Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha suffered abuse from the terraces, including monkey chants.

And there were accusations that Justin Hoyte had the n-word hurled at him in a tunnel confrontation by a Serb player during the fiery Euro championship clash last month in Nijmegen, Holland.

But despite calls for Serbia to be hit hard for the controversy - including Les Ferdinand, who demanded they be kicked out of the tournament - UEFA dished out its usual lenient punishment.

The FA were also fined for "improper conduct" by their own players as tempers were lost towards the end of the game.

Serbia have three days to appeal, but England can't appeal because the fine is below 5,000 euros.

"The FA is disappointed by the fine for improper conduct because we don't believe England players were to blame. In our opinion they conducted themselves with great restraint in the face of provocation," said the FA last night.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
