SWP and Martin Petrov to Spurs?

    SPURS CLOSE IN ON S.W.P.
    By Darren Lewis 17/07/2007

TOTTENHAM are aiming to tie up the £12million signing of Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips this week.

The north Londoners are in "advanced negotiations" with the deposed champions to snap up the England star and take their summer spending to nearly £50m.

Tottenham last night refused to comment on the state of talks between the clubs but boss Martin Jol is a huge admirer of Wright-Phillips, whose acquisition would give a massive boost to the club's chances of breaking into the top four.

Jol has snapped up Darren Bent, Gareth Bale and Younes Kaboul as part of some impressive transfer dealing to leave Spurs fans dreaming of easing arch-rivals Arsenal out of the Champions League qualifying places.

Now the swoop for Wright-Phillips, 25, is sure to heighten those expectations - especially as the winger is thought to be keen on the proposed move.

He was chased by Tottenham two years ago when he was up for sale at Manchester City but they were blown out of the water by Chelsea who paid £21m for the player.

Aston Villa and City are also interested.

Tottenham are also on the brink of signing Bulgarian left-sided midfielder Martin Petrov from Atletico Madrid in an £8m deal.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

just don't understand where they get all their money from.

I think Spurs will be a very very good team this season.

Spurs have some very rich people in their board. Not Roman rich, but enough to challenge for a top four spot.

I was gonna ask the same thing. Isn't it the case that Jol, long-term, sees him as an Henry type? Not that he needs any more strikers, like.

Spurs piss me off with all their money. They can have him anyway, he's ****.

I really like the look of spurs; Petrov is a very tidy player indeed.

And 'IF' SWP recaptures Man City form... WOOF!
                    ...

They must have a squad of about 128 players by now...

I'd love them to play that formation against us.

I reckon Gerrard, Momo and Mascher would break them in pieces
