Chelsea agree terms for Feyenoord's Drenthe

Chelsea agree terms for Feyenoord's Drenthe
    tribalfooball.com - July 17, 2007

Chelsea have agreed terms with Feyenoord over a £7 million fee for Roysten Drenthe.

The Independent says Real Madrid also expressed an interest but it is Chelsea who have made the decisive move.

Feyenoord want Drenthe to stay with them for one more season and, although this is still to be agreed with Chelsea, it appears that the Premiership club may say yes. Personal terms have also to be negotiated with Drenthe.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

    Interesting.
I thought he was off to Real Madrid. Anyhow if he does go to Chelski he is a first class **** who's career will go down the toilet!! imo.

Isn´t just a left flank player, he can play left mid as well. Won't play too much at Chelsea though I would have thought, besides I could have sworn Mourinho said he was done buying?
          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I think you've forgotten to take into consideration that he's a lying c~#t

I would be amazed if Chelsea do not sign a big money striker this summer as both Drogba & Kalou will be missing for the African Nations - also would not surprise me if Alves went there too

Looks more like Robben to Real at the minute.

Looks like there will have to be a pretty extensive change in the Chelsea attack/midfield next season. Unfortunately having more width again will probably make them a better team, assuming they get quality in to replace SWP and Robben to complement Malouda.

Drenthe seems to have gained an enormous reputation in the last few months - has anyone seen much of him?

Yep, Robben on his way. Bye bye you cheating little *******.

Chelsea winger Arjen Robben has agreed personal terms over a move to Real Madrid, reports BBC Radio Five Live.

The clubs are yet to agree a fee, which is thought to be about £15m, but Robben, 23, is expected to fly to the Spanish capital on Friday.

It is also believed Feyenoord's 20-year-old left winger Roystone Drenthe has been lined up to replace Dutch international Robben.

Holland Under-21 star Drenthe is expected to move for £7m.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon earlier admitted they were keen to sign Robben but Blues boss Jose Mourinho denied he was to leave the club.

Robben has two years left on his Chelsea contract and has seen talks on a new five-year deal stall.

Calderon told radio station Onda Cero: "It is a negotiation which will take place in coming days or weeks.

"If the situation is favourable financially, I think that he is a player who could be brought in."

But Mourinho is in no hurry to sell, saying: "The club wants to keep these players. I trust the board and our chief executive Peter Kenyon in the negotiations he is doing.

"I know the players want to stay and I would be happy if they signed."

Robben's future has been further clouded by Chelsea's signing of Lyon winger Florent Malouda and Robben admitted on 10 July that contract talks were not going well.

The winger is one of manager Mourinho's key players but his progress at Chelsea has been hampered by a succession of injuries.

Last season, a thigh strain and knee injury kept him on the sidelines for several weeks of the campaign.

However Mourinho said he was keen to keep Robben, despite Malouda's arrival.

Robben played 45 minutes of Chelsea's 1-0 friendly win over Suwon Bluewings at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, on Tuesday.

After the match Mourinho said: "The latest with Robben is that he played the game. I cannot tell you more than that.

"At the moment he is a Chelsea player with two more years of contract and he is working well.

"For me, he is a player like Terry or Lampard with two more years of contract.

"I look at him as a Chelsea player and he has to compete against very good wingers like we have. I am happy with the situation."

The way the chavs play, I can't see them ever keeping wingers very happy.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

To be fair there was a Mourinho interview this week saying he planned to go back to the formation he played with Robben and Duff. So I expect we will see a change from last year. I suspect Jose would sell Sheva if he was allowed.

It was an interesting comment re: Mourinho, basically saying he was going back to playing two in midfield and two wingers. He was also raving about Essien as a player, and that he wanted him in midfield this year - that begs the question regarding Essien Partner - Ballack or Lampard? One of them is going to get unhappy, and fast.

Unless he is going to phase out Makelele and put Essien in his old role with Lampard and Ballack in midfield. I think that in a three they look quite a balanced set, its when you try and shoehorn them into a 4-4-2 formation that it looks like a bad idea.

I expect we will see a fair bit of rotation though as we haven't even mentioned Mikel or Sidwell. The former in particular seemed to grow as a player last year and the later will probably need to be shown the ropes before Essien and Mikel bugger of to the African Cup of Nations.
