Birmingham agree £6m fee for Mido

Birmingham have agreed a £6m deal with Spurs for striker Mido.
The 24-year-old Egyptian star had been expected to move to Birmingham on a one-year loan deal after struggling to make an impact at Spurs last season.

But now a permanent move has been struck, subject to Mido agreeing personal terms with Birmingham and passing a medical.

Mido will be Birmingham boss Steve Bruce's biggest buy of the summer so far if the deal goes through.

He is now further down the pecking order after Spurs signed Darren Bent.

Birmingham boss Bruce has also made an enquiry about Mido's Egypt and Spurs team-mate, Hossam Ghaly, as he looks to build on the squad that earned promotion last season.

Definitely the worst / craziest signing of the summer. The Spurs board must have something on Fat head Bruce, no way would anyone pay £6m for Mido on their own free will.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think its a very good aquisition for the brummie bitters...

Mido strikes me as the type of footballer who wants to be a big fish, and if its in a small pond so much the better.

I think he'll have a good season for them.

There's my neck on the block. lol.

We'll if he gets any bigger he'll have to be classed as a whale.

The thing is, Roma couldn't get rid of him quick enough, Spurs took a gamble after the loan and paid £4.5m and realised after about two games it wasn't gonna work out. I thought they'd be happy to let him go on a free to get him off the wage bill, so I can't understand why anyone would offer £6m for a player who wouldn't get any games for Spurs this year.

I still think the figure can't be accurate regardless of how many papers it's been in. The £6m must surely include wages or something.

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce is confident of signing Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly, but his hopes of landing team-mate Mido are fading.

Bruce hopes by the weekend he will have made the 25-year-old Ghaly his eighth capture of the summer.

But having agreed a £6m fee with Spurs for Mido, the Blues have failed to meet the 24-year-old's wage demands.

Bruce tried to sign Mido on loan, but Spurs want a permanent deal after spending £16m on Darren Bent.

The Blues boss wants Egyptian forward Mido to supplement his current strike force of Olivier Kapo, Garry O'Connor, Cameron Jerome, Rowan Vine and Mikael Forssell.

If Bruce fails to land Mido, he will continue his pursuit of a striker to provide as many attacking options as possible.

Bruce is also keen to bolster his defence and is interested in taking Arsenal's Johan Djourou on loan.

He said: "I've not spoken to Arsenal for a while about Djourou but we will see where we are. We're still hopeful something can be done."

It would be interesting to hear what wages Mido is after - I'm guessing £75k a week.
