Barton to miss start of season

Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton is set to miss the start of the Premiership season after he fractured a metatarsal during Saturday's 1-1 friendly draw at Carlisle.
Barton, 24, will be sidelined for six to seven weeks after scans revealed the extent of the damage to his foot.
The England international midfielder joined Toon for £5.8 million in the close season and was made captain by manager Sam Allardyce for the match at Brunton Park after debuting in a friendly with Hartlepool.
The news will come as a blow to Allardyce, who only took the reigns in May following his resignation from the Bolton Wanderers hot-seat and departure of Glenn Roeder from St James' Park.
Allardyce wants the club to move away from the injury problems that plagued it last year, causing them to finish in a lowly 13th position in the league table. To do this he is introducing the technical methods he employed at the Reebok.
Barton suffered a strained relationship with former Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce in the closing stages of the last campaign and has been dogged by controversy throughout his career.
