These clubs make me laugh when they moan about an escape clause being activated; isn't that the fecking idea of them? If a club is stupid enough to sign a player and then agree to the player or agent including said clause then they get exactly what they deserve.
Correct me if I'm wrong here - but I haven't heard of any LFC representatives being present when Ziege and Bellamy signed their contracts at Boro and Blackburn. So then, who actually leaked the details of the clauses in their contracts? It's either the player, the agent or the club. Period.
A buying club can activate a clause unwittingly but that's highly unlikely. The probable cause of the leak is the agent involved; it makes sense. So if any blame has to be apportioned then it's in the direction of the agent - not the club activating the clause.
I thought the accusation from Boro was that LFC got Hamann to approach Ziege at the world cup (or Euros-can't remember) and tap him up and Ziege volunteered the information to Hamann. didi then told Houllier.
At the end of the day we were found guilty of an illegal approach so you can't really blame Boro for having a good moan.
I think the rules are a bit odd. I wish that they just allowed tapping up as it clearly goes on with or without the legislation about it. As the rules stand I think clubs are right to demand compensation etc. But ultimately I don't see what benefit the regulation is and it clearly infinges a players rights to choose who they work for.
I accept that football has different rules than rugular employment but if a player wants to leave they should be allowed. Maybe the FA should demand all transfer clauses are made public and then no one could complain.

Is the sad face because you think he may be a replacement for Gerrard?

No.. I used the search bar for Cattermole, then realised it was the footie forum I'd posted in and not the transfer spec..
.

Cant help but think he'd be stupidly overpriced though, by virtue of being english, young and one of Sunderland's few remaining decent midfielders.
His wiki picture makes him look like the kind of thing ITV news puts up on the screen when they're reporting news of someone who is on the run from the police and 'should not be approached'.
Good call that mate.
Last season - NRC was the stand out player on the pitch at Anfield for me. I said it at the time and got ripped for it !! Now though - people are recognising that he's a very decent player indeed. I reckon he'd be perfect for Man Utd and he'll end up there. Just a hunch though
Steve Bruce has dismissed reports linking Lee Cattermole with a move away from Sunderland and stated that he is not available at any price.
With new Reds boss Roy Hodgson currently overseeing some transition in the squad, Cattermole has been seen as a successor to by Javier Mascherano should he leave Anfield.
Bruce however has already lost Cattermole's midfield partner Lorik Cana after a shock exit to Galatasaray for £5million, and insisted that he is not about to lose one of his key players.
"I don't know anything about that, and I have absolutely no intention of letting Lee leave this club - none whatsoever."
