    Adrian Leijer

    Local boy from my neck of the woods in Geelong, Australia just been signed by Fulham from Melbourne Victory. Only 21, big, strong defender who is calm and composed. Look forward to seeing him play if he can get a game. Felt composed to post this just cos the number of Geelong boys playing in EPL is now doubled (Josip Skoko- Wigan).

    Has the potential to be Australia's best defender apparently.

    Also David Carney has signed for Sheffield United, but no one cares because he's a wang.

        Bit taller that Neill i think, more of your old-fashioned Central Defender. Less of a **** than Neill as well.... Also has captained underage Australian teams so has maturity and leadership skills.

          As a Geelong fan i hope the lad does well....but i bet he will be playing for a championship side in three years time. (could well be still with Fulham)

          The lack of quality coming out of Australia is a bit un-nerving at the moment.

            I think its just a generation thing, we are slowly seeing the Viduka/Kewell/Moore generation pass, and these players retiring will see a new generation get their chance, and get themselves noticed. The likes of Milligan, Leijer, Carney etc have only come through in the last couple of years, and by the end of this year i expect those three will all be playing a high standard in Europe.

            My issue is with the lack of decent young strikers coming through, i cant think of a really highly rated one at the moment...

              yeah definately.

              Our midfield isn't too bad...but the strikers are shocking TBH. Once Viduka goes we wont have anyone.

                Tell u one thing, Brett Holman aint the answer! I havent seen him play his club football, but he looked shockingly out of his depth playing for Australia. Given the other strikers were Viduka, Sterjovski (spelling?), and Aloisi (all 30+ yrs old), thats a big worry. Mark Bridge is the only youngish striker i can think of that is half-decent.

                  Nathan Burns is the only attacking player we have coming through...and he's not a striker, more a linkup guy. Bruce Djite also is promising, but his finishing is lame

                    Yet i dont believe it has been mentioned at all in the media that we have absolutely no striking depth.
