I hate it when people use the cliche 'if he was brazilian...' but in his case, it definitely applies.

Very undervalued by england coaches of the time. Produced things most players could only dream of.

It seems ourselves and also Italy have a fear of playing flair players. We however don't have the excuse that it helps us to win things.

Couldnt agree more he should have played more times internationally BUT a lot of it was down to himself. As brilliant as he was, he was also a lazy ****. You might get away with it at Southampton like, but not at the top level.

Probably the same as you I was made up whenever he got picked for england so I could see what hed do with better players around him. And each time he done absolutely **** all, other than walk around the pitch carrying a huge nose with him.

He should have left Southampton and moved to a bigger club to prove himself to teh doubters and show his obvious talent on a greater stage.

He was a far better player than a pundit - cannot stand him on Sky Sports.

To be fair to him though, internationall football is such that you need a decent and regular run in the team normally, to establish yourself...and he never got that.

Agree with you mate, but unfortunately in this country unless you play for a big club you dont get a proper run out at international level. Big nose knew that as well as everyone else so he should have played with a rocket up his arse when he DID get a chance. He never did.

Fair shout about being lazy. IMO any team should be willing to sacrifice workrate in one player, if he's capable of producing the kind of magic Le Tissier was, but it's down to the coach obviously.

I doubt Rafa, for example, would have a Le Tissier in his side.

Absolutely no chance Rafa would give him the time of day

I was one of Le Tissiers biggest admirers (in a non gay way), not saying I agree with why he didnt get more of a run but I am saying I understand why he wasnt. And he could/should have made far more of the opportunities that he did get.

In fact, pretty much the same as my feelings towards Litmanens stay with Liverpool.

big fish in a little pond and he was happy with that. dont think he wanted to prove himself on a big stage which is a shame because he had a phenomonal talent

Not saying he was as good as Bergkamp, but he was bloody close.

Would've been a legend had he played for us.

But of a waste in the end.

                          he really was a genius

seems like football is running out of the 'bergkamp-esque" players in favour of stepover gob****es and club footed speed merchants

                              it sure is.

No more Zola's, Bergkamp's, Di Canio's, Ginola's.....its depressing thinking about it.
