I'm surprised the Scum didn't batter them yesterday. Without Terry the Chavs tend to be a mess at the back, and without Drogba they lack their default get-out option in attack, the big hoof downfield.

I watched the highlights on MOTD last night and Lampard's name was mentioned twice in the whole match. Once when he passed in the second half, and again when he passed his penalty to Van Der Sar. Maybe he was awesome in all the bits they cut out though.

They'll still grind out results against most teams, but I don't think they're going to be stronger than last year.

I think Lampard will struggle this year. Dont ask me why but he is going to have poor year by his standards.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

I think if they retain Robben then the addition of Malouda may mean they carry more attacking threat. They also have a lot better strength in depth this season which was only ever really lacking at CB. Ben Haim looked a lot beter partner for Carvalho than I thought he would be although I would suggest they would still be vulnerable in the air.

Lampard was anonymous but they had Joe Cole upfront for large segments of the match which limited the amount of time they spent in the attacking third so it wasn't a big surprise. Chelsea looked really good for 10 minutes after half time. I would say they will be as good or better than last year if their injuries clear up.

I forgot about Cole coming back. Drogba was one man show at times last year. If the rest of the team can chip in and make up for the absence of Drogba and Terry whenever they're out, then you could well be right.

It'll be interesting to see how Pizarro fairs too.

I definitely think they need to pay the doctors where you come from a wee bit more...

Anyone know the situation with Alex at the minute? I've Ben Haim pencilled into my FF team for the start of the season hoping he'll play until Terry is fit again.

He'll be doing well if he's back in 4 weeks, I did my MCL and I couldn't turn properly for months.

Good that he misses the Liverpool game but not as much of a loss as last year as they have Ben H with them now
