I thought it was silly money too, but I confess I've barely seen the lad play.

The thing is that keepers of sufficient quality are rare. In the last few years PL teams seem to have suddenly realised how much of an asset they can be and with the added funds this year they will obviously become more valuable. We are very lucky to have Reina and Carson.

Maybe we are stocking reserve keepers as a source of future funding

give em a ring - tell em Carson is available for £12m !

Seriously though, it often surprises me how goalies are usually bought on the cheap. Van der Sar won the Charity Shield yesterday, but Cech pulled off a couple of match saving saves during the game too. They often mean the difference between 1-0 win and 1-1 [ask Rudolph] draws.

I'm just surprised Sunderland are able to pay £9m for him. Villa are minted with their Yank, but Sunderland and Niall Quinn? Wouldnt have seen that one coming!

Top class keepers are hard to find. Excellent temperment on him as well and young.

He'll do well at any club he goes to, he'd be better off at Arsenal than the like of S'land and Villa though.
How come everytime he plays for Scotland and the ball comes near him I get the ****ters.

Not saying he's ****e or anything but £9m? Outlandish.

agree it does seem crazy money, but not really seen much of him. Be interesting to see how good he is -v- top class teams.

                    Superb keeper.

But he has made the odd mistake against the likes of Celtic. He's very young though so he can be forgiven

Iv seen quite a bit of him and id say that if he keeps on improving, in a few years he will be one of the very best in the world. Needs to be playing regularly in the Premiership

I'd put him on a par with Carson, probably slightly better due to his international experience.

Man City have also joined the race to sign him.
                          We come not to play.

Who was it on here who was convinced that Isaakson was going to be the best keeper in the premiership/europe/world/universe?

That hasn't worked out has it. It would be a big improvement for any of the sides linked IMO.

£9m for a Scottish goalkeeper - and not so long ago there was this thing about taking the piss out of their goalkeepers wasn't there?!
