Robbie Fowler is set to fly out to Colorado in America next week to have keyhole surgery on his troublesome hip.
Fowler, 32, has had a problem with his hip in the past but played through it.
But with the Cardiff striker currently out with an ankle ligament injury, boss Dave Jones told the South Wales Echo now would be the right time to act.
"He is still two or three weeks away from training because of his ankle and the medical opinion is that a minor operation can sort his hip," he said.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He's going across the world to get keyhole surgery?
Surely they'd be able to do it in England.

So it's Ning Nang Nong!

Cardiff striker Robbie Fowler could be ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a new hip injury.
He received the news after flying to America for a minor hip operation designed to solve a long-term problem.
Medical staff had to carry out a 'micro-fracture' of the hip bone to cure the damage, but Cardiff played down reports his season was over.
"His return is not imminent but nobody knows how long he will be out," said a club spokesman.
"He is here having treatment and we will see how it goes."
Fowler picked up the new injury while playing for Cardiff, but it was only discovered while he was in America.
The 32-year-old's contract runs out at the end of the season, meaning he could have played his last game for the club unless the option for another year is taken up.
A source told the South Wales Echo talks are likely to take place over the next few weeks saying: "Robbie wants to come back."
