    Fifa & Jack Warner

Fifa vice-president Jack Warner said he will battle to stop England hosting the 2018 World Cup.

Warner, a member of the world football body's executive committee since 1983, added: "It will be Italy, Spain, or even France who will get the World Cup if it goes to Europe.

"Nobody in Europe likes England. England invented the sport but has never made any impact on world football."

Regardless of your opinions on the English football team, to have the World Cup here would be fantastic. On the back of William Gaillard's comments that the Liverpool fans are the worst in Europe, it seems to me that there are plenty of powerful men in both European and World football that have a personal prejudice against England as a footballing nation. We have had many problems with our supporters, but we are far from the worst these days.

Warner himself has become a bit of an embarrassment to Fifa, there was the ticket scandal of the 2006 World Cup where he worked the system to try and make himself $8M profit from the sale of his country's ticket allocation. The man is a cretin and a crook.

    Feel free to complain here:

When people are in positions such as Vice President of an association such as Fifa, their opinions should not be based on personal prejudice. There is no further explanation as to why the cup should not held in England, other than his belief that everyone hates the nation. By 2018 there will be a new Anfield, The Emirates, Wembley, Portsmouth and Everton are looking to build new stadia, and I'm sure many will follow, and it will probably include Wales and Scotland too.

His opinion isnt prejudiced by hatred for england though, he`s in charge of concacaf which in turn runs the caribbean footy which also wants the world cup in 2018. Thats what its about.

I, however agree with the sentiments that england is a bellend of a place. I come from the independent state of Liverpool btw

                I was joking mate.

Anyway, these are glorified events, even though they're great (world cup and all that), there are things more important in life, such as famine and poverty in other countries. I think England's taxpayers money (and any other developed country in that perspective) would be wiser saving some of it towards aiding these countries.

I live in a different world anyway, so I can **** right off.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

His comments are prejudiced by a hatred of England. The fact that he's president of CONCACAF is the crux of the matter, but his comments are still prejudice.

Fredo, I knew you were joking.

I suspect we would make money on a World Cup to be honest. The stadiums are already in place and in the future it looks like a lot will have better supporting transport infrastructure. The number of people coming in for games + sponsorship makes me think we would do very well out of it. We would certainly be in a better position than almost any other European nation.

I'm not sure that it is a simple as a trade off between aid and football tournaments anyway.

On the other hand the predjudices of a FIFA official against a well off nation which will carry on regardless are not ones which deserve a great deal of attention.

Especially as that well known anglophile Beckenbauer has already come out in support of our bid - slightly going against the idea that noone likes us in Europe.
