    Beckham in NYC

Just back from the Red Bulls vs LA Galaxy match tonight which NY won 5-4. Yes, 5-4.

Beckham had 3 assists from set pieces, was tackled late and went after one of the Red Bull players, and was booed on all set pieces before being applauded after the match by the crowd for his excellent play.

But, Juan Pablo Angel and Jozie Altidore both had a brace, and Clint Mathis scored a sweet goal as well, and the Red Bulls won a thrilling match on Angel's 89' goal on a terrible howler by the LA keeper Joe Cannon.

66,000+ on hand for the match, people cheering the entire time, flashbulbs flying whenever Beckham got a sniff of a free kick or corner, and tremendous atmosphere as the crowd was squarely behind the Red Bulls (despite the sea of Beckham jerseys). Happy our boys won, and I have to say, sort of thrilled to see a league match in the USA with 66,000 people and so much passion. But 5-4? I'll never see that again, ever.

I have to admit, despite my cynicism, Beckham was excellent in his limited role and if he continues to bring in the crowds like that, he really will help the game here. And we need that. Fair play to him.

I like Becks despite his manc roots and im glad he seems to be having a positive impact on the mls.

You can't turn on a sports channel in England at the moment without getting an update of LA Galaxy.

Beckham is going to be excellent in that league though isn't he. He would still have a couple of years playing at the highest level in the big leagues of Europe so MLS isn't going to be too difficult for him.

I'm sure its good for American audiences and hopefully it will be good for the sport over there if he helps bring through a new generation of kids wanting to play the sport but he is getting very well paid for it though isn't he?
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Good points there, couldn't agree more.

          What is his 'limited role'?
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Its good to see 66,000 people turn out though, will they continue to have crowds like that throughout the season?

I heard they cheer for goal kicks. Is this true?
