Yes. If he felt he had a case, Fergie had to do everything he could to stop him from joining. You'd expect the same from Benitez if it was the other way around, wouldn't you?

It's about players rights and not about clubs or corporations 'owning' people just like slavery of old.
Players should also honour contracts they signed. A contract is a binding agreement between two parties, is it not? If he wanted a way out, he could have put it into it. He's a PROFESSIONAL.

Alves has served his time at Seville and if he feels he needs to move on then so be it. He could have been ours if Del Nido didn't veto his move last year and now it's the same saga all over again.
You're looking at a case from a subjective point of view. Yes, Del Nido hurt us with his antics, but from his point of view he was doing the right thing for his club. He shouldn't work for our interests, we have our own people to do it for us.

As a professional I'd jump at a chance of moving on if I was offered better terms or a more challenging position somewhere else. Even with a binding contract, things can be discussed constructively and for the good of everybody. That's the essence of the world we're living in.

and the President should honour what he promises the players and that hasn't happened in this case. You can't have it one way only.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He verbally promised to sell him if a club matches his valuation. Guess what, nobody did.

Because he kept upping his valuation. It started at £ 10m last year and even at £ 27m it's still not enough.

So you would be happy for any player in the Liverpool squad to act like Alves has? He's acting like a spoilt kid and I'm so glad we never signed this childish little prick if this is what his attitude is like. He gets paid very good money to play for Sevilla and he should honour his contract until Sevilla tell him otherwise. Look at Beckham when he signed for the yanks Capello said he would never play for Madrid again. Did he moan and go AWOL? Of course he didn't he trained hard and won his place back and ended up being one of the main reasons Madrid won La Liga. I think in situations like this it shows the true mentality of players and Alves is acting like a spoilt child.

Mate, this is a simple equation really. Clubs keep players happy, through a variety of reasons and our club is probably one of the best in world football at retaining their players, because of the challenging nature of being part of it.

At the end of the day, it's a number of things which can make or break a player's loyalty to a club. I just think that Alves wants to get out and I'm not sure it's because of money alone.

Could we close this discussion now ?

Supply and demand. He's being chased by all of the big guns in Europe, why would he sell him for what he was worth a year ago?

                      Nobody offered him £27m.

He promised Alves that he would be sold if any club bids £18m+ when he signed his new deal. He has now turned down £25m for him.

You can look at anyone with some kind of inside info into the Alves deal and all of them will say the same. Del Nido is the one to blame in this mess.

                        I wonder why?

I happen to have inside info into the deal so I know more than most of the english papers do but that isn't to difficult.

Exactly. The reason why he hasn't put in a transfer request is to get the big money move AND get a nice payment from his own club.

Can I ask this question then.

If what you say is true then why didn't Sevilla drop his buy out clause to 18 mil when he signed his new contract? Surely Alves agent would of demanded this to happen before he signed a new deal?
