    Deadline day thread

Any stuff as the clock ticks down, non LFC-related of course, in here please.

One move that's really puzzled me is Gary O'Neil to Boro. What's that all about? A few deadline days' ago, there were a few rumours about him coming to us. He's been Pompey's best player for a couple of seasons, but suddenly he's deemed surplus to requirements? WTF?

    ____________________________________________

Middlesbrough are giving a medical to Gary O'Neil ahead of sealing a believed £5m move for the midfielder from Premier League rivals Portsmouth.

"We've agreed a deal with Portsmouth and pretty much agreed everything with the player," Boro boss Gareth Southgate told his club's website.

"He's just in the process of having a medical at the moment and we're very hopeful it will be done.

O'Neil, 24, only signed a new five-year deal with Pompey in July 2006.

"I didn't think he would be available but he has now become available for various reasons at Portsmouth and he's somebody I've been an admirer of for some time," added Southgate.

O'Neil started out as a trainee at Pompey and made his debut for the club at 16 against Barnsley.

He has been a first-team regular for the past few seasons but appears surplus to requirements.

How the hell did Villa get Davies on loan? I thought West Brom wanted enormous money for him. Very odd.

Dunno. It's a 12 month loan with a view to a £9m permanent move. Quite odd. Is there anything binding about "a view to a permanent move"? Couldn't Villa just send him back after getting a year's service out of him and say "Thanks very much!"...?

Eh? No, Miller was fighting for a place at Celtic with, amongst others, ex-Oldham striker Chris Killen - who is also a total piss-head. I was being sarcastic about the strength of competition he faced for his place.

It's normally a code for Villa paid for the loan and got a set fee in return. I just don't get why West Brom think that is better for them than a slightly reduced fee now which if the reports of £9m bids from Villa are true would surely have been negotiable. Loosing Davies is potentially a disaster for them in terms of getting out of the championship and this way they have less money and all but no time to get replacements.

                          Anthony Basso to Hearts?
Decent keeper, should do OK in Scotland.
He`s got big boots to fill though.

And what kind of a name is Younghusband?

Derby have supposedly had an offer accepted but Nugent doesn't want to leave - and who can blame him? Presumably he's moved his family down and bought a house....why would uproot merely weeks after moving? He should dig his heels in and stay and fight for his place.
