    Uefa warning over imaginary cards

    Uefa warning over imaginary cards
    from the Beeb,

Uefa has ruled that any player who waves an imaginary card in an attempt to get an opponent booked will be cautioned themselves.
Referees have also been ordered to clamp down on dissent and book at least one player should they be surrounded by a protesting group.

The directives were issued to Uefa's elite and premier referees at a meeting in Nyon this week.

They come into immediate effect for this weekend's Euro 2008 qualifiers.
    ----------------------------------

It's about time something like this was brought in, I hate it when I see players doing this. I've even seen lil' Luis do it, hopefully this will stamp it out of the game.

I hope so too it's a very unedifying sight

How does a referee determine that it is, in fact, an imaginary card? Surely that rule is down to interpretation and the player might be imagining something completely different to the ref.

I don't like that part of the game either but they could do with getting actual offences right first.

Good. Garcia did that in a game once and I was embarrased.

I love him, but it's an awful habit - and if it takes him getting a couple of Yellows to get the message then so be it.

I'm sure I've seen this rule applied somewhere before on occasion...although I may just be confusing it with my long standing desire to see every ref book every ****in' arse hole who does it.

Good news, although I'm sure they'll start off by applying it with a clinical regularity before gradually forgetting to do it as the season wears on.
