The annoying thing about it is that when he took over, in fairness you couldn't see that we had anything coming through that would entice a better manager to take the job but since then we have seen the likes of Doyle, Hunt, McShane, Long etc come through - Staunton has no idea how to get the best out of them though

To make the mistake of not starting with Hunt in particular and also Reid is just typical of Staunton but to not even bring them on is unforgiveable. How must Stephen Hunt have felt on Saturday, a player who has played week in week out in the Premiership for the past 14 months and one of our better players on each of his Irish performances sitting on the sideline as inferior players start ahead of him ...... and then to see the likes of Douglas (old style 3rd division player) & a Manchester Utd reserve who hasn't even played first team football yet get on ahead of him - must be degrading for him

The only positive that may come out of us not qualifying is that staunton will be out on his ear. I dont blame staunton necessarily but more the Irish FA that appointed a man with fcuk all experience. Shambles.

Fair point that it was a shambolic appointment, that said nobody else wanted it at the time and since he's been in the job he has done nothing to justify the decision or to endear himself to the players, media or fans

If he was more open and admitted when we had been poor / disgraceful then people would have a lot more respect for him. The idea of waiting 20 minutes after the San Marino game when we scored an injury time winner we scarcely deserved and then had the audacity to say that it was a tough place to come and other countries would not find it easy to get a result, after the Germans & Czechs had pillered them from start to finish knocking up cricket scores on the way said it all ......... & this after Kilbane had been embarassed picking up the MOTM award, even he didn't know where to look !!!
