Chelsea are set to name Avram Grant as their new manager replacing former boss Jose Mourinho, BBC Sport understands.
The Israeli, who was the director of football, will now take charge with Steve Clarke as his assistant.
Grant will be named as the new manager at Stamford Bridge later today, BBC Sport's Garry Richardson has revealed.
The 51-year-old, who is a close friend of Roman Abramovich, arrived at Chelsea in the summer and was told by Mourinho not to interfere in team affairs.
Grant, who up until now has held a place on the Chelsea board, arrived at Stamford Bridge after a spell as technical director at Portsmouth.
Previously he guided Israel to the brink of World Cup qualification in 2006 and he has also coached Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Haifa.

What a joke Chelsea are! They have made a total mess of things and appointing Avram Grant is surely the biggest joke of the lot. He will just be Abramovich's yes man. History has shown that when chairmen try to interfere and pick the team, sign players etc it always ends in disaster.
Let's hope Chelsea are the new Hearts.

With the problems going on behind the scene I would of prefered him to still be there. The Jose v's Roman would of got more interesting over the next few months.
Get the feeling Roman wanted him to quit but Jose wouldn't so only when the Chav's look to be knocking on the door of a crisis they are forced to sack him.
He leaves having not lost a PL home match so on the outside looks just like a spat between him and Roman - would of much prefered him to off gone 20 games in with them battling for UEFA cup.Its times like these we learn to live again FF

More to follow.

Sorry. But wait...

Avram Grant? Incredible. They'll be relegated with no marks like him in charge.

Mate. This is the best thing to happen to us and the worst thing to happen to Chelsea. Mourinho is Chelsea. There are few managers on this planet like Mourinho. Every club he manages will be successful. Why? Because he's a phenomenal manager.Originally posted by redlancer View PostWith the problems going on behind the scene I would of prefered him to still be there. His big big downfall is that he is a loathsome, lying, arrogant, ungracious ****. It's his personality that will ultimately kill his career but his managerial skills are as good as any other manager on this planet.

Its obvious Grant was brought in to take over but Jose wouldn't go.
Jose is a good manager but if there's as much friction behind the scenes this will have an effect on the players and we could of donw with a few more months of this and it going into another transfer window. Its times like these we learn to live again FF

Bad news.
Chelsea will be a bigger threat with another manager. I don't like Maureen but I see the situation from what would be best for us.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
