If the rules were observed in that way then there would be 10 penalties a game. Football is a contact sport and penalties should be awarded at the descretion of the referee depending on whether the "foul" had intent, warranted a penalty etc. Clearly some people think, as I do, that the situation was tantamount to simulation, which is the main aspect here. Not whether he was 'kicked' (or brushed, as the replay seems to suggest). Full stop = it was a dive. Penalty or not.Originally posted by DJS View PostSurely whether it puts him off stride or not, kicking someone in the shin is still a foul??

Sorry, but without being a mindreader, how is the ref able to decide on intent?Originally posted by NICKZS View PostIf the rules were observed in that way then there would be 10 penalties a game. And if you think a player gets booted in the shin 10 times per game, you're probably watching the wrong kinda ball game.

He got a touch on the shin and jumped up like he'd just stood on a piece of glass. Sensationalising what was an innocuous incident is not going to make it carry any more weight.
As for quantifying intent, that is a referee's job isn't it? You don't have to be a mindreader to see whether somebody meant something or not. In any case, it's not worth going over this time and time again. Opinion is divided clearly.

Yup, commented on that with me housemate. Grant looks like a real horrible piece of work.Originally posted by thesilverfoxlfc View PostHow ignorant was Grant today after the match and not shake any hands until Carlos and Fergie chased him for a handshake.
I dont like the look of him at all
I mean, Mourinho was a ****, but at least he was a likeable ****. This Grant fella just looks like a miserable ****.
People say the Eriksson show's no emotion, but this fella takes it to the extreme. Just stood there the whole match giving everyone the daggers.
