Messi is very Best like, in that he is not a forward in the traditional sense but scores freely. Messi at pace with the ball at his feet looks very like the old footage of Best back in his prime. More so even than Maradona.

Maybe even some day Messi will have an airport named after him just like our George.

A unique player, thats for sure. He has it all and if he can have a successful WC he will definitely be regarded as an all time great. I wonder what the future holds for him in terms of clubs. Surely he will want a new experience at some stage.

i can't see him leaving barca - i reckon he will be there, if he stays fit, till he is 28 + before moving to AC Milan until he is 32, then on too Real Madrid, then on to Blackburn aged 39

I predict a move to Madrid a bit sooner.

As good as he is, he's still some way of being 'as good as Maradona'.

Why would he leave Barca?! Certainly I can see him staying for as long as they can keep playing football like this. I don't see Xavi, Iniesta or Messi ever leaving.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Exactly.... A sure-fire way to wipe the smile off his face.

i still think zidane was very special i remember watching him play for madrid with all those galacticos (on tv not actually there lol) and he was head and shoulders above them.

for me maradonna is the greatest ever. not sure about pele and some people of a certain age and who support a **** team talk about best being the best. i dont know how good he was? does anyone have an honest opinion on where georgy boy was in terms of all time greats .

it certainly looks like messi could end up being the best ever. you would pay to just see him never mind anything else at the camp nou.

hope he has a good world cup.

and how much is he worth????
For me, Best on his day was the best, but his short career means he's not the 'Greatest', that has to be Pele for 15 years at that level and so much success. Maradonna sat between them, Messi is up there but needs to keep it up for a bit longer to realy establish himself in that company. Both Pele and Marradona carried teams to a new level single handedly and that counts for a lot IMO. They also did it despite the back passes and hatchet men!

he'll probably be better in the long run as he is missing maradona's egotism and madness which lead to his downfall

if you think messi is still 2yrs of being the same age as Maradona's golden yrs at napoli. Frightening. Also his work ethic and apparent humbleness could mean he goes onto be the greatest ever.

Although could see that crazy **** maradona ****ing up his international career in some sort of drug addled jealousy fix!!

Does no one rate Ronaldo (the real, Brazilian one) as one of the greats then? The lad had phenominal pace, could dribble rings round people, two great feet and scored goals for fun at every level, including on the international stage. If it hadn't been for them dodgy knees...

I'd be suprised if Maradona is still in charge of Argentina after the world cup

I think he is the most complete striker of our generation. I would put him above anyone in history as the greatest striker yet. Out of this world.
