The Sunday Express says Avram Grant's appointment at Chelsea has complicated matters for United in their pursuit of the Mexican teenager.
Dos Santos will next month be represented by Pini Zahavi, the agent who just so happened to bring Grant to Stamford Bridge after parking him down at Portsmouth for a year.
Zahavi's best contact in English football has been Sir Alex Ferguson but now he also has Grant in his stable of Premiership bosses.
So does Zahavi take dos Santos to the Bridge to help Grant, or to Old Trafford?
With just next season left on his contract, Barca must tie him to a new mega-deal or risk losing him.
Zahavi was spotted in the Catalan capital this week, so Barca are upping the ante with a new contract offer. But if no agreement can be reached, then dos Santos might even become available in the January transfer window.
