PETER Ridsdale has stepped in with an offer to foot the bill for Cardiff City fans who have had to cancel hotel bookings for the trip to Blackpool next month.
Supporters have been fearing the worst after the Carling Cup draw pitted Dave Jones’ Bluebirds with Liverpool at Anfield.
That match has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 31.
They were due at Blackpool on Friday, November 2 in a Championship clash – but that match has now been postponed.
Around 50 members of Cardiff City Supporters Club have already booked tickets and accommodation – and paid out £1,800 on non-refundable deposits for hotels.
However, they will not have to worry themselves about seeing their money disappear now.
“We wanted to move the Blackpool match back to the Saturday, but the local police would not allow it,” said Ridsdale.
“I will guarantee to repay the money already paid out by Cardiff City Supporters Club – and I will then press for the Football League to pay it.
“Whether that happens or not it should not be the fans who suffer.
“They should not be left out of pocket.
“We will help anybody who has receipts to show they had already paid for accommodation and cannot get their money back.
“When the Liverpool tie was arranged for the Wednesday, we asked immediately that the Championship game against Blackpool should be moved back a day.
“But that has not been possible.”
Cardiff City now go to Blackpool on Tuesday, December 11 and are without a match over the first weekend in November.
“This is a fantastic gesture by Cardiff City and Peter Ridsdale,” said Vince Alm, who is travel officer for Cardiff City Supporters Club.
“The club are not responsible for this, but the chairman immediately offered to help us out.”
“Cardiff City have done their fans proud.”
THERE is no ticket information on the Liverpool tie yet, but it is expected Cardiff supporters will be allocated around 6,000 places
