    McFadden goal to be commemorated

James McFadden's winning goal for Scotland against France on 12 September is to be commemorated at the national football museum.

The striker will unveil a giant photograph of his goal at the Scottish Football Museum at the National Stadium, Hampden, Glasgow.

McFadden's 30-yard strike in the 63rd minute gave Scotland a 1-0 win against the World Cup runners-up in Paris.

The photograph will be on permanent display at the entrance to the museum.

The victory boosted Scotland's chances of qualifying for the 2008 European Championships.

The result took Scotland to the top of Group B, which includes France, Italy, Ukraine, Lithuania, Georgia and the Faroe Islands.

Alex McLeish's side have now taken six points from the French.

Shouldn't they wait until they qualify (or not) before commemorating their famous victory?

It will all have been for nought if they don't do the business over the next few weeks.
A humble guy with healthy desire.

Don't see what's so funny? If you go back a few years we would have done anything to get the results we have done recently.

And whether we screw it up or not makes no difference - it was a result to remember.

Delighted for Scotland doing well and really hope they qualify, but isn't this a bit Blue****ey?
You can agree with me, or you can be wrong.

Couldn't care less mate, maybe a little OTT but so what - we don't have a lot to celebrate normally.

Yeah I know what you're saying . To be honest we (Irish) should have done something similar for Gary McKay back in 88 when he scored for Scotland to beat Bulgaria. It meant we qualified for our first ever Euro Championship and the World Cup followed 2 years later so in my book Scotland can do no wrong.

Commemorating a goal that hasn't (yet) led to a significant achievement is an example of the small-time mentality that prevents teams/clubs/associations ever aspiring to real glory.

Scotland would be well advised to treat beating France in Paris like beating the Faroe Islands at home. 3 points.

Of course they should take the confidence and momentum that comes from beating a good team but if anybody says "congratulations! You beat the mighty France!" The response should be "**** off, of course we did. We are the mighty Scotland and we'll beat Ukraine too."
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

Why are you fed up Shags?

Not seen Phil Schofield disgrace himself lately?

                      No, I haven't.

I was extremely fed up over the weekend after yet another bad result. Not so bad now. Think I'll change it.

Maybe we are just realistic considering the size of nation we are? We are extremely proud of what we achieve - beating France home and away is an achievement in itself.

We don't have delusions of grandeur, just hopes and dreams.

By that argument we shouldn't celebrate Istanbul considering Dida should have done better with Smicers goal?

                              :whatever:
