If he had actually had Robson at his side, which was the original deal, he may not have some of the obvious mistakes that he did. He's not a good enough manager for us, but neither does he deserve the abuse he's getting.
But Ritchi3, you or I could see that certain players needed moving on (and how the enigma - without the good bits - that is Kilbane is still being allowed ona football pitch is beyond me). I'm looking for a bit more from a manager - not only at international level either - than doing the patently obvious.

I've never understood the Robson role so it's difficult for me to disagree with you. It may have turned out differently with a well Robson - or it may have turned out like an Evans/Houllier show (who's in charge?). As for the abuse - that's the media driven world we (in Ireland, anyway) are racing towards. Not nice but we're stuck with it.

Oh, and I paid good money to watch it too, I'm not saying I wasn't frustrated, but I still support the team.
thats fair enough. Although, I didn't hear any booing until Cyprus hit the post or had threatened to score.
To be honest, I think it has got to the stage where Staunton just has to be replaced. The players are big enough to get over the boos. I guess the public feel they can't let this kind of performance go un noticed at a game. Yes in an ideal world, we should only boo at the end of a game. But it is asking a hell of alot for such a big crowd and nobody to boo.

Maybe the people who booed shouldn't have spent the money, stayed at home, bought a load of beer and booed at the TV.
Then when we come good, most likely under a new manager, they can come back and start supporting again

          You don't boo your team.
Thats not true mate, anyone who made the trip last night to watch the game, will most likely be the ones who always go. Everybody wants tickets for the big games, but the fans last night turned out to watch us play a face saving game that had no real meaning other than trying to save face. IMO the people that booed last night were right to, and to be honest, be it during the game when Cyprus hit the post, or at the end of the game, I would have booed too, they players are big enough and bold enough to take it on the chin, or at least they should be.

They're human beings, not machines. Having your home support turn on you early in a game is not going to help you perform any better. We were kicking them while they were down. The first boos I heard(disregarding the constant shouts of Staunton out from random people), were with Cyprus' first chance, well actually when Staunton came out to give the players a bollocking after it. It was pretty much periodical after that, booing when they had the ball, abusing Robbie Keane when we had it.

The pleb beside me spent the whole time between abusing Keane and texting someone on his phone, he came back about 15 minutes into the second half and left directly after the Cyprus goals. I'd prefer if people like him just stayed at home.

As to Keane(who I'm almost certain is carrying an injury by the way, his leg looked very heavy when he was off the ball). I heard people giving out about the fact that he was picked. And Staunton was a fool to pick him. Staunton was a fool for picking our top scorer ever over a guy who has never done anything for us and barely even scored top flight goals for his club?? The abuse goes beyond sickening.

I didn't see one thing wrong with the selection last night(maybe Miller in the centre instead, but that wouldn't have made that much difference), the subs were ok, except it probably should been Keane coming off, instead of Hunt. Although I still think he's more likely to score than everyone else, and Hunt is a real headless chicken, more of an impact player than someone that could win a match like Keane has in the past.

Stauntons biggest problem is communication. He can't talk to the media, which immediately puts the fans against him, and he doesn't seem to be able to talk to the players to give them the right motivation. We need a stronger voice in the dressing room, that's all. Tactically, Staunton seems to have learned enough to beat most teams, as some good results have shown, but he's struggling to get players motivated. Although I do respect the way he's sticking by his guns and picking his own team.

Oh, and I also think Stan will be here for another two years, and I expect him to make a better go of things in the next campaign. Despite having no help from the fans.

Frankly I have always thought that Staunton was a Muppet. He was down my loacl pub one night with Kenny Cunningham, two of my mates were there, this was before he was IRish manager, about a year or so before say. They went over to shake his hand, and he refused to acknowledge them both. They told me Cunningham was dead sound, and they talked to him a little, but Staunton was a prick according to them.
Staunton has been thrown in at the deep end, and when we went a goal down last night, and he was shouting orders at the team to go 3 at the back, I wouldn't help thinking that they had never even tried that before under Staunton, as he had big problems communicating his message to the team, I understand it is very hard to expect him to be at Rafa's level when it comes to formations, but he atleast should have some organisation and leadership, he has neither. A manager should be someone who has an aura about them, something the players respect, Staunton is the polar opposite to that of a manager with an aura about him.
He seems to have no football philosophy or at least, it seemed like he had never really considered what it was before he became manager.
If they can sack Brian Kerr, they can sack Staunton, and while they are it at, replace that idiot who appointed him.
I agree he has to be replaced but I wish some of those shouting for his head, ie Dunphy Giles Brady would have to balls to stand up and say who he should be repalced with.

Incidentally bazza just cos your two mates didnt get a response from his doesnt mean hes a muppet.

I've met him several times and always found him approachable

                  I'd be surprised.

Who do you think we should get instead. Realistically? Kerr is the only name that comes to mind for me.

I wasn't at the match, and I know you were obviously, so I didn't hear all the booing, sounds a bit excessive. I also feel the stick Keane is getting is over board too, he seems to be trying hard as far as I can see, but to be fair to him, we can't pass the ball around like Spurs can and do not have that calibre of player at our disposal. I do not think Keane tries any less for Ireland.
Honestly I would hate to see Staunton getting another two years, the last two have been bad enough, and I can't see his position becoming any easier as Ireland manager. He was the wrong appointment to begin with, I always thought that, was gutted when he was appointed. Enough messing about by the FAI and just replace him.

I've been scanning the football websites all day at work waiting to hear that Staunton has been sacked.

I think I may be waiting a while longer.

                        Still...I live in hope.

On RTE radio this lunch time Tony O'Don was laying into Stan and that the FAI board are meeting today and they surely cant let this go on

Kerr wont get near it. I thinK Dave O'Leary is waiting in the wings for it IMO

...but im not sure. I would like a World Class manager or at least a top manager we haven't had one in a long time and at least McCarthey done well with us and Big Jack before, remember the summers when we were in World Cups and Euros they had the whole nation in Party mood great days, but look at it now

.....Hiddink does a great job and worth it to pay him the big bucks look at Russia now.....

maybe not a full time muppet, but on the night in question he was.
It was very ignorant of him. Not as if he is an A list superstar who got hounded all the time.
