    Non League Footy

Or lower league ****e, does anyone go?

If you havent been before, if there is club near you (esp non league) I suggest going. Its ****in ace. Ok the footy isnt brilliant but the crowd is ace. As you have no loyalty to either side you can watch it and listen a lot more than you would watching Liverpool.

I went to watch Southport V Northwich Victoria yesterday in the FA Cup. It was **** funny. Old fella's in cloth caps, giving everyone down the banks as if its Liverpool v Utd. The poor linesman took a right ear bashing.

Bearing in mind Southport is a bit wool, to hear 60/70 year old geezers saying stuff like 'If you cant play football and thee is ****e in bed, be a linesman' and then applauding when one of the home team players gets taken off and shouting 'Eeee get off you non-tryer' then the player looking over and giving them the finger, it really is a quality afternoons entertainment.

I think I'll be going back to Marine next tiome we arent playing on a staurday.

How did they get on, - yeah i take an interest in non-league footy - watched vauxhall motors a few times, used to train with marine when i was 16, got a a few mates who play west cheshire football which is more or less as good as amateur football is going to get, they only play for a small club but they play against some very good sides that have their own ground with small stands and a social club etc - it's a good laugh and just as much fun as going to anfield at times - go and watch a decent game of footy, whilst having a pint - standards always high and there is always good banter etc. I love it, it's the grass roots of the game which make it the best sport, lads playing for the love of the game. Now where is the burger van I'm off to get a hot bovril

I won 2 season tickets this year for my local non league side (Aldershot Town). I've taken my old man to the games and it's been a top laugh.

The standard of football is generally pretty good, you get a few agricultural tackles flying about but that adds to the fun. The fact that Aldershot have done fairly well this season helps, but as an advert for lower league football it's been great.
What have I learned, Mr Mackay? Three things. One - bide your time. Two - keep your nose clean. And three - don't let the *******s grind you down

yeah i love lower league football. In fact **** it Liverpool have been binned - i am a Vauxhall motors fan now - i might set up a non-league forum - www.estnonleague.co.uk

I have also watched a few games in the welsh league, again decent standard of footie, always a few hefty tackles - there is nothing funnier than seeing some fresh faced 17 yr old winger, with spiky hair and white boots - thinks he is the bollocks, comes on skins a few players before getting snapped into the stands by some 40 yr old bloke who used to be a pro

oul fellas poleaxing upstarts is always quality. mate in work told me how he was playing gaelic football when he was about 19 against a neighbouring village. the opposing team had twin brothers who were "legends". he was playing full forward with one of these legendary 40-year old fat ****ers marking him. first high ball came in and my mate catches it easily at the expense of oul fella. after scoring the oul fella comes up to him and says "now young fella you were lucky to get that one but if you do that again, i'll break your ****in back", punches him in the ribs and winks at him. my mate chose not to score again.

Watching non-league footy can be a right hoot, been to see Ossett Town a load of times, great fun hurling abuse at the opposition's left back.

Been see Lancaster a bit in the past I used to play at u 18's and few of my mates are still there now, they slipped down 2 leagues though and FC Utd are in the league now got a crowd of over 2000 when they visited!! Great laugh because when you hurl abuse everyone on the pitch hears it especially at the ref! Good to get behind your local side as well!!

exactly - it's so funny, every now and then you will get a biter who just can't resist getting involved in an arguement and just totally looses concentration

Went with a mate to see Droylesden earlier in the year at Kidderminster. There were around 20 Droylesden fans in the away end who more or less out-sang the 1300 or so Kiddie fans. It was the night of the Porto v Liverpool match and from the seat I had I could just about see the massive plasma screen in the hospitality box so I could keep an eye on CL action. Catering at Kiddie was grand - they had chow mein and shepherds pies and all sorts of stuff -for the 20 away fans. Top craic. Hopefully get another match in this year with him - possibly away at Stafford

Southport are at home to Tamworth on Saturday and Liverpool kick off at 5.15 so a return visit may be on the cards! Will check out Marine again soon tho. Its boss at Marine. With the ground being in the middle of houses, they have fences up with numbers on so when the ball goes over they know which house to knock at.

The "corporate" hospitality at Ossett is an elevated portacabin....

I've played at Stafford Rangers a few times when i was about 19/20 (about 5 years ago) - they have a good set up there, and a really good pitch - they have a stand there called the Carling stand or something, there was a story doing the rounds that stan collymore paid for it as that is where he started his career.
